If i can give my cat a monthly tablet to prevent flees. Why can't we do the same for kids with headlice. ? Maybe its the sun that's got to me but this seems such a good idea.

Sorry I didn’t read what you said properly

I don’t know but the reason you can get tick prevention for humans is that we shower too often

She said Flees.

Because the advice on this sort of pre-emptive treatment for pets has recently changed due to the risks (so def not a good idea for kids!):

I want to know why they haven't invented something better than tablets or spot ons to medicate cats. Such as teaming up with the Dreamies people to put flea and worm treatment in those.

You say 'you can give your cat a monthly tablet' but that sounds as believable as if you said your DC happily eat their five a day, clean their rooms without complaint or never complain they're bored in the school holidays, ie something that people on MN say happens, but really isn't a thing in the real world Smile

Absolutely, trying to give my cat a pill would never work, Dreamies, they'd be perfect

You can get “pill pockets” that look like dreamies, but you put the pill inside to get it past your feline overlord.

Ablondiebutagoody · 25/06/2026 18:20

Because kids very rarely get headlice so it would be OTT to take drugs every month for something that might only happen once or twice their whole childhood.

MidnightRosesS · 25/06/2026 18:26

I’ve got 4 kids and none of them have ever had head lice!

This sounds worth trying, the cat reacts to back of the neck treatments like it's gbh. I'm off to google, thanks @GrumpyInsomniac

Why did I not know about these? I used to make miniature minced beef meatballs for DCat for years to hide his medicine inside. We ate so many dinners based around minced beef in those days.

OP, a lovely lady in the chemist's told me not to bother with headlice treatment as it didn't work, but to buy tea tree conditioner, slather it on, leave overnight then comb with nit-comb. Always wash their hair in tea tree shampoo from then on. Never saw another nit.

Ooh, thanks for that, will try them. Will also suggest to DM for her dog, who despite being a typical greedy dog who'll eat everything she can get her paws on, is wise to the 'shove it in a piece of chicken' trick and will carefully extract and leave aside the tablet then wolf down the chicken.

I have headlice right now.
At least I think so.
I haven't seen one at all.
but symptoms are compelling.
Mortifying hence a name change.
For WEEKS I've been combing like crazy, several doses of hedrin (left on for up to 36 hours), and still I feel I'm getting new bites.
It's rather depressing.

I'd totally like OP's product idea :-).

ps: now I know why vet charges me £20/month for special cat flea meds.

CrikeyMajikey · 26/06/2026 21:49

I wouldn’t want chemicals in my kid’s
bodies.
