To ask what may seem like a very straight forward travel insurance question

I am awaiting a diagnosis on an injury I’ve had for a long time. My NHS appointment got cancelled again so I spoke with my travel insurance who told me I need to get a diagnosis before I travel.

No problem, I’m going for a private scan next week and will have a diagnosis by the end of next week.

My NHS GP have said they are willing to review the report and make any referrals that are needed.

If I then go onto a waiting list for an appointment with a consultant on the basis of that report, does this then become another case of awaiting tests and therefore the insurance is invalid? Or because I have that diagnosis, it’s fine and it’s just awaiting treatment?

My insurance have confirmed that the moment I get the diagnosis, I’m covered.

Sorry - I’ve posted here for traffic as my insurer is now shut for the day and I need to book the appointment in asap

Book it. You don’t want to be waiting too long and the referral is for treatment not diagnosis. But your insurer is the only one who can say 100%.

They’re just super cryptic. I asked them about the injury and whether it’s covered and the wouldn’t say yes or no

They won’t be able to confirm one way or another until they know what the results are, and potentially what if any treatment is needed.

Oh the pre-existing condition will not be covered. As it has been diagnosed before the trip they won’t pay for anything to do with it.

Yes it will. They have explicitly said (and do) cover pre-existing conditions. I have an add on.

When I spoke to them I explained what the referring clinician thought it was. They confirmed it would be covered, but not until it was diagnosed. That’s why I’m going for the scan - it’s cheaper than going without it!

Basically it’s a lower limb injury.

I called them and they said I could exclude it - but if I were to say, trip and break my arm, the insurers would try to argue that it was due to the injury. They wouldn’t cover it.

However, if it’s diagnosed and I declare it, it’s covered. It’s considered a pretty low risk injury. That’s why I’m getting the scan.
