I need some new shorts for the house - thinking of buying some from Vinted…or it’s a big no no ? For maybe hygienic reason ?

OP posts:

I think pretty much all my shorts are charity shop purchases. And, like the others, I've no idea what you mean by "the other sort" of shorts.

tealandteal · 22/06/2026 22:55

There must be many other sorts of shorts other than denim or Lycra…. I thought you maybe meant knickers but why would they just be for the house?!

Cestmoiwifey · 22/06/2026 22:39

I’m not talking about denim short or Lycra short…you know the other sort !

If you mean underwear why not say?! We’re all adults. why all the talking in code?

Why do 20% of people think this is U? Can you explain what the issue is? Thanks

I wouldn’t buy any second hand clothes online. Whether shorts or not. I need to see something in the charity shop & do a sniff test.

familyicons · 22/06/2026 23:02

Pants?

ffs

Ah fair enough. I thought it was this special top secret type of shorts everyone was specifically against buying on vinted

YourWinter · 22/06/2026 23:07

Whatever anyone gets on their clothes will wash off. Shorts are generally worn with briefs, surely a wash with bio detergent will clean them regardless who’s been wearing them?

I buy pants and socks new but cheerfully buy anything else pre-owned.

PatsFishTank · 22/06/2026 23:10

I was wearing second hand shorts today. I don't understand why it would be a problem?

SideboobToYouToo · 22/06/2026 23:13

I buy everything except underwear from there

sadeyedladyofthelowlands63 · 22/06/2026 23:26

80% of my wardrobe is from Vinted or charity shops (notunderwearobviously). I wash things before I wear them.

I don't understand the 'other shorts' thing!

Delphiniumandlupins · 22/06/2026 23:26

If OP means underwear why would they only be worn in the house? If she doesn't mean underwear why would they be any more unhygienic than jeans or other trousers which lots of people buy on Vinted?

DeltaVariant · 22/06/2026 23:29

I wear second hand swimsuits and haven’t died yet. I think you’ll be fine OP!

Pistachiocake · 22/06/2026 23:30

Assuming you wash them, what's the difference? If you buy new, they could have been tried on/worn before.

Bumcake · 22/06/2026 23:31

What a weird question. I would buy most clothes second hand (second arse) happily enough, but not pj bottoms in case they’ve been worn keckless.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/06/2026 23:45

I’ve bought exercise shorts from Vinted before. I am not a shorts wearer otherwise (except than pyjama bottom shorts) but wouldn’t think twice about buying second hand jeans or trousers so surely it’s much the same?

If you mean underwear type shorts then no, I wouldn’t buy those. I can’t think of another type.

corblimeygvnr · 22/06/2026 23:53

Oh it's a late night post about second hand shorts ..right ..

marriednotdead · 23/06/2026 05:09

HangingOver · 22/06/2026 22:37

About 90% of my clothes and shoes are from Vinted

Yep, the vast majority of mine are secondhand/preloved/vintage!
I regularly get asked where I got things and nobody bats an eyelid these days because it’s cool to be sustainable.

Wre · 23/06/2026 05:12

You might get pregnant so I’m not sure if it’s worth the risk?

Don't you have a washing machine?

sorrynotathome · 23/06/2026 06:22

No you will definitely get an infection or become sterile.

Cloudconfusion · 23/06/2026 06:28

What other type of shorts op? Do you mean knickers? I don’t think anyone has any clue what you’re on about.

RumpleDumple · 23/06/2026 06:32

As pp just asked, what other type of shorts do you mean? Im baffled! Buy the shorts and wash them before wearing, or dont buy them . No need for an AIBU thread

scalt · 23/06/2026 06:38

It’s only on Mumsnet that people are “weird” about wearing second hand clothes (and which toilet people are allowed to shit in).

Lararoft · 23/06/2026 06:41

I wonder if OP is talking about Nike Pro style shorts?

Somnambule · 23/06/2026 06:42

I voted YABU for being so weird.
