Getting up early is actually good isn’t it?

I love a lie in at the weekend. Im up early during the week and often have broken sleep thanks to my toddler waking in the night so it really refreshes me to have a lie in. However if I get up any later than 9am I really feel like the day has gotten away from me and I’m rushing to get all the things done that I need to. Which is silly really as it’s only 2 hours later than I’d usually be up for work!
Got up early with the little one this morning so Dh could have a Father’s Day lie in and actually it does feel really good to be up and on early. Already got some washing done and planning to get out with the dogs and get lots done.
Hard to decide what’s best between a lovely lie in and feeling productive and smug because im up with the lark. Which do you prefer?

My brain just works better in the morning and in the evening I am literally no good for nothing.

It doesn’t matter if it’s work, a long drive, housework etc the earlier I get up the more efficient I am.

I actually hate waking up early but I’m completing an open university degree and will regularly get up at 4am and smash it out.
If I woke up later it would take me twice the time to do half the amount.

I usually have 1 day of the weekend where I get up really early and get loads of the chores done, especially sorting my things out for the following week and life admin etc and then the next day have a lie in and not do any admin or chores etc.

I’m the same. By about 3pm my brain is on a lagging go slow.

So lovely to be up now with a cup of tea, listening to the birds.

Pretty much always up at 5 lovely and cool and breezy this morning will be too hot later.

Joining the outside cup of tea gang. And I got Wordle in two.

I am up at 6.00am everyday, weekends included. I always feel that I have wasted the day if I stay in bed any longer

Mydogisagentleman · 22/06/2026 06:11

I'm generally up at 5.30 for work.
In Spain at the moment. Me and dogboy were up at 5. We've been out for a walk before it gets too hot, hung a load of washing out and have another on the go. I would love to lay in, but I can't remember the last time I was in bed beyond 7

I also think there is a positive correlation between good mental health and getting up early.

Of course I can't prove that but it's something I believe. Someone will be along to say correlation is not causation. So I will save them the trouble!

I agree with you. Anecdotally, everyone I know that gets up later has poorer mental health.

Exercise, plan, read, study, while those on a different body clock slumber. Bliss.

I can’t remember the last time I woke up past 6.30 so this is just usual for me. On days where I’m in teaching a 9am lecture I’m up at 5. I don’t really think about it since it’s so engrained. I guess it’s good? I’m in bed by 10.30.

Oh look. Another thing my body decided to fuck me up with😂
I am post midnight sleeper....
(no idea why I woke up today hour earlier than usual)

muddyford · 22/06/2026 09:28

I can't remember the last time I slept beyond 6.00. I was in the shower at 5.00 this morning, did an hour and half walk with the dogs before it started to really warm up.
