Would you find this description of office wear offensive?

If a colleague described female colleagues wearing more summer-like clothes (and naturally having more flesh on display) as ‘like an only fans parade’, would you expect this to be challenged? Or do you find it an acceptable description.

OP posts:
SharkEnthusiast · Yesterday 21:40

That would not be acceptable to me. What is the culture generally like?

PurpleLovecats · Yesterday 21:47

I guess it depends what they were wearing!

wheresthesnowgone · Yesterday 21:47

Photos please

LlynTegid · Yesterday 21:48

How would the person who said this know what an Only Fans parade was, would be one reaction.

ACatNamedRobin · Yesterday 21:49

Well was it accurate?
The words themselves are not vulgar, just descriptive (if actually accurate).

DandelionClockSeeds · Yesterday 21:53

It very much depends on what they are wearing.

Assuming suitable for a work environment, its an unacceptable comment.

But if the person in question isnt wearing very much, and it's an acurate description.....

BauhausOfEliott · Yesterday 21:54

Yes, it’s extremely inappropriate to compare colleagues to porn performers, obviously. It’s inappropriate to comment on how much flesh colleagues are showing at all.

Pansykavalier · Yesterday 21:57

Irrelevant. The comparison with only fans is highly inappropriate, whatever the outfit.

”You need to wash your mouth out with soap” would be my response.

SilenceInside · Yesterday 21:58

Of course it’s not appropriate to compare your female work colleagues to porn performers. Working on the near certain assumption that being adult women they were dressed appropriately for their workplace.

SkippitySkoppity · Yesterday 21:58

'Oh really? So how many Only Fans subscriptions do you have exactly?'

Error404FucksNotFound · Yesterday 21:59

I would find it inappropriate.

ForLemonAnt · Yesterday 22:01

very strange

ColdAsAWitches · Yesterday 22:01

It would very much depend on what they were actually wearing. If it was inappropriate for the office, then it's not an inappropriate comment.

mumumental · Yesterday 22:24

Completely unacceptable.

DierdreDaphne · Yesterday 22:28

Not acceptable. I would not respect the person who said that in future. If it was said in hearing of someone they were referring to (possibly including yourself OP) I would consider it sexual harassment.

And before any 'oh it was just a joke' apolgists pipe up, it was not in any way humourous , so that excuses nothing

Actually it still would be inappropriate..Even if the attire was inappropriate too. So no, definitely unacceptable.

G5000 · Yesterday 22:30

there's quite a difference between 'onlyfans outfit' and 'summer-like clothes'. Which was it?

PollyBell · Yesterday 23:10

I dont see how we can say without knowing what was being worn if it is appropriate for an office then it is appropriate

Pansykavalier · Yesterday 23:19

FFS. To compare a female colleague to women on only fans is always totally inappropriate, irrespective of what they are wearing. It is highly disrespectful. If some women here cannot see this, what hope is there that we will ever be seen as equals.

If men wear similar the same could be said about them there is appropriate clothes to wear in a office for men and women

basoon · Yesterday 23:23

If they were wearing very inappropriate office clothing, then maybe it would just be a descriptive comment

I’m not arguing about the clothing. Of course there is appropriate and inappropriate office attire. But to sexualise female colleagues by comparing them to only fans shows that they do not see them as equals.

ETA: Comparing a colleague to women who are on only fans is never just a descriptive comment. It is a value judgement, always.

StrawbreweryShortcake · Yesterday 23:39

It's not a very elegant or professional way to phrase things, but if what they say is true, perhaps professionalism isn't valued in that workplace.

My view would likely depend on the accuracy of the statement and who made it. For instance, was it a man or a woman?

Wingedharpy · Yesterday 23:45

Well, if Doreen has turned up for work wearing only a split crotch thong and a peephole bra, they may well have a point.

”You need to wash your mouth out with soap” is not the stinging riposte that you think it is.

It's a very old fashioned thing to say to a child who used a naughty word.

I think it's better to challenge men like this on a more intellectual level.

Or just call a dickhead a dickhead.
