To me they sound totally different.

Aksed sounds more like axed, whereas asked sounds like aresked.

Because, as OP pointed out, the people who need to see it won't be on there. I can't stand the way it's treated as such an abomination to highlight poor spelling and grammar. We are here communicating by the written word. It matters greatly and affects nuance and meaning. We all make mistakes and we all continue to learn throughout life. It's a great thing to come across this sort of post and realise you've got it wrong until now, but now are going to get it right.

For example, I actually learnt it's 'remuneration' on Mumsnet! I'd until that point always said 'renumeration'. 😀
