BBQ

DH best friend is having a birthday BBQ.

DH asked if to bring anything for the BBQ, his friend said no need.

I feel awkward arriving just with a present.

Should we be taking anything extra?

don't take food cos it might mess up their plans, but take a bottle of wine or whatever either they, or you, like to drink.

I’d probably take an extra host gift. So if you usually just take a bottle of wine I’d take some nice chocs as well or some flowers

Depending on the friend I might take a six pack of lager, a bottle of sparkling wine or some fancy cordial and posh lemonade.

Someone once gave me a lovely little set of pots of slightly unusual herbs for my windowsill - dill, lemon thyme, marjoram. I loved it.

I think things like nice crisps, even dips too can work because the host can just shove them out if they want for not. Don’t bring food if they’ve said no, the host will have worked out what they’re cooking and they don’t need to add on a bunch of odds and ends people have brought.

Wine & flowers or wine and a bag or two of fancy crisps.

Maybe a puppy?

Always take drinks and a gift for the host - chocolates, flowers or whatever

I would take drinks

I’d bring some nice drinks, a mix of alcoholic or non alcoholic, or some chocolates or flowers.
