she brought her son and her dog in altho' there is a sign saying 'dog free zone'. she sat on bench texting, son ran off to play, dog relieved itself in woodchip surrounding play 'train'.

ds1 plays regularly in this playground and i often see him and other kids playing with the woodchips, picking them up etc.

i said 'excuse me your dog is peeing' and pointed out that kids play with the woodchips and she went 'oh dogs come in here and pee at night' - the playground is quite old and dilapidated and the gate is often left open.

that's not the point though, is it?

YANBU it was a dog free zone so it shouldn't have been there. Could have been worse though

yuk. lovely irresponsible owner. YANBU.

I suppose this woman thought that her dog pees on her garden where her child plays, so not a big deal to her. However, there was a sign saying 'dog free zone', so she should have taken notice of that, although if the only seats were inside the dog-free area I can see why the dog was with her. I would be more worried about her dog running loose, she knows her dog is friendly, but others have no reason to do so, especially those afraid of dogs.

If the playground is old and dilapidated, speak to the council about it, and the repair of the gate as a priority, telling them that the woodchip is contaminated because of people flouting the dog free rule, and they may replace that as well. Unfortunately, it is a hard rule to enforce, unless there's a dog warden permanently around.

No yanbu! Go snitch on her to the head and get her banned from the playground...

asicsgirl · 24/06/2008 09:09

thanks girly that's a good idea re. the council. gate repair would remove that part of her argument at least!

That is gross. Speak to the head and maybe they can remind parents that dogs are not allowed in the PG in the next news letter.

YANBU at all. This woman is.

My dd was traumatised by a leaping dog in the school yard in reception and still doesn't like dogs much now, much to my horror. I love dogs.

I hate selfish owners who don't accept that some people don't love their dogs like they do.

Silly, silly woman...(her not you!)

WilyWombat · 24/06/2008 11:21

YANBU she is a selfish idiot (unfortunately a lot about these days)

Brave of you to pull her up on it...I would have just seethed quietly.

mrsflowerpot · 24/06/2008 11:22

YANBU - if it's a dog free zone, it's a dog free zone.

edam · 24/06/2008 11:22

What an ill-mannered toad that woman is. Good for you for pulling her up on it. And glad you are going to contact the council.
