To ask what you would do with this car seat? am I being ridiculous?

Firstly i’ll start this by saying I am an extremely anxious driver/ passenger so anything car related really freaks me out, especially since having a baby.

I have a 3 month old and we had have the nuna car seat on a rotating base- the other day I was getting her out of the car and stupidly slammed the car door shut with the seat rotated outwards, the door hit the car seat side pretty hard. I’ve taken the fabric off and there is no signs of damage- but i contacted nuna in a panic and they’ve given me the blanket advice to replace the seat and base after any impact.

What would you do? I really cannot afford nearly £500 and it seems ridiculous it’s just because of my stupid mistake. My partner thinks i’m being over the top but i’m paranoid about car safety. Nuna will not tell me how likely it is that this has actually caused damage.

I wouldn’t have contacted the manufacturer, I would just turn it around and carry on using it. But knowing how MN car seat threads go I’m sure tons of people will be along soon to spend your money for you by convincing you that they buy a new car seat every time they drive over a pothole or speed bump.

would you say it’s unlikely to have caused damage? it looks absolutely fine, not even a dent.

Most stuff like this is engineered to not lose its usefulness after a minor bump. Like if you accidentally drop a crash helmet on the floor it's not going to stop giving you protection.

Assuming that it was not a sledgehammer type blow I wouldn't give this a second's thought if it all looks fine.

The manufacturer unfortunately is never going to tell you that because they don't want the legal and reputational risk (and they want to sell more car seats).

ok this is reassuring me that i don’t need to spend £500, thankyou. it definitely wasn’t a sledgehammer strength hit, just slammed by me (i don’t even go to the gym so can’t have been too hard)!

Even if you dented the foam a bit, the seat still works as a restraint which is its main function. You also whacked the feet end presumably, so the most cruicial bits round the head and body will be fine.

I used to have a car seat on the back of my bicycle (with a proper safe attachment holder thing). I dropped my bicycle the first day I used it, thankfully without baby in it!

yes the foot end! thankyou. i’m just very anxious in cars and with him being only tiny I worry!

I think it will probably be fine. Slamming a door on it won't have been a ginormous impact.
