This is such a non-event, but it's wound me up nonetheless. WWYD?
Had a PCN attached to my car. Every car in the stretch of road had one. My car was legit parked with correct payment via ringgo. So assuming it was an overzealous warden, threw it in the car to check it when I got home armed with my evidence to appeal. (Not the first time I've had to do this - the area is renowned for it)
Important to note at this stage that the pcn was sealed, it had been raining so was stuck together. Definitely not opened beforehand.
Anyway, I checked the online evidence and it was for a different make/model/reg parked in a different bay on the back section of the road behind where I was parked. (Weirdly, the pic of that car shows a ticket on the windscreen so why it would end up on my car, I don't know)
Contacted the council to let them know that the actual car in question's owner wouldn't know they had a ticket (remember - the pcn was unopened when i had it), and that the warden has made an error in placing the ticket on a different car, which the council should be aware of.
They've written back to me to say the appeal (?) is rejected and there is 14 days to pay at the 50% discount, a further 14 days after that to pay 100% or at 28+ days, a NTO will be sent via DVLA etc...
They then go one to say that all my details have been stored in relation to this fine name, address, email address etc!
Now bearing in mind that this has diddly squat to do with me or my car - and they'll discover that at NTO stage - I can just delete the email and forget all about it... however, the actual owner of the car in "violation" now can't appeal themselves and will have no option but to pay 100% of the fine all because they're unaware they have a fine in the first place!
This council slap tickets out left right and centre despite them not being valid and people are getting sick of it.
AIBU to attempt to somehow let this car owner know so at least they can pay 50% instead of 100% of the pcn? And how?
Furthermore, if they had actually paid and this is yet another hit and hope action by the wardens, I appear to have taken away their ability to appeal by contacting the council about the error.
Oh, and I've just thought, what if the warden was slapping them out willy nilly and got one for me mixed up with another car? I'd be raging mad because the full amount would come straight out of my wages as the my employer's lease company auto-pay them.
