To ask you to find me a holiday

I know there are many amazing people on mumsnet. I've posted before about much more profound issues (under different usernames) and have been moved to tears by the kindness and support of many on here, which had been amazing to me as I have no family.
But now I need help for a much more superficial reason - a holiday!
My DC 15 and 12 have never been abroad and their greatest wish is to go to France.
I really want to get them there this summer.
We would drive. Can't afford flights. We need to do it on a very tight budget.
I am interested in eurocamp, yelloh, huttopia.
My criteria is:

  • budget friendly price
  • school summer holidays
  • large outdoor pool is a must
  • coastal with sandy beaches or inland with lakes/watersports and lovely scenery
  • not too far a drive
  • warm weather
I don't know France. Can anyone give me some recommendations please? I'd be so very grateful!

Me and my DS just booked cheap Easyjet flights to France then used public transport or taxis to travel round.

Not using a travel agent and booking directly saved us a fortune. It worked out cheaper than driving!!

So for example about £1000 flight to Basel for 4 people (a little more for bigger bags) then eurocamp Ile du Rhin in Alsace about £550, train about £100 for 4 in advance then a taxi to teain station perhaps £20.

Depends what your budget is but do some research and book things individually yourself. Can be cheaper and less stressful than driving!! This is what me and DS do!! Has always worked our fine!!

Is there a reason why you would prefer to drive please? France is a much bigger country than you might think and taking into account incidental costs of prolonged travel and time spent in doing so that could eat into your holiday, a budget airline flight might work out much cheaper.

I've lived in Corsica since June of 2000, so my instinct is to say, "Come to us!" but we're the furthest away from Britain and known to be expensive. Saying that, I've had to go to Marseille quite a lot recently and if anything, the prices of things there were the same if not more pricey for inferior quality.

I've also always maintained that the best bits of France are close to other countries or sticking out on a peninsular where other folk frequented over time and diluted the extreme, "La France Profond" vibe. Better food that doesn't involve offal and force fed ducks and geese for a start. I'm not crazy about Lyon or the Carcassonne area bits. Offal and gipping waterfowl heavy respectively.

What part of French culture to your children like? What is their idea of France?

Could you perhaps give us an idea of how much money you have to spend?

Bon voyage!

We have stayed in a couple of the siblu camps which were very good value for money.

We have been in Sandaya Cote de Nacre campsite in Normandy over May half term and we really liked it
