What did you do today that made you feel proud?

Our fuse box went pop. Anything electrical scares me almost as much as Watership Down. Google wasn't any help. I had a ugly cry little sob in the understairs cupboard and considered whether we even needed electricity really. Then I got a grip, identified a blown light bulb caused it (I think?!), got the ladder (from the dark garden) and changed the bulb. I once lived with a hall with no light for years because I'd rather live in the dark than change a light bulb so this was no small thing for me. Then flipped the fuse box and everything worked again!

Obviously, I'm worried that I've somehow electrified the light switch. Obviously. Plus the ladder is still in the kitchen because I didnt want to go into the dark garden again.

But on a day where I was thinking I can't cope with everything being thrown at me, I'm actually very, very proud of myself. I'm sharing here because I can't tell anyone irl because it's just ridiculous that I feel like this over changing a light bulb and dealing with a fuse box (and dark garden).

So in the words of Heather Small, what have YOU done today to make you feel proud?

I've been for a run and am slowly rebuilding my stamina after colon cancer surgery and 12 weeks' chemotherapy. I'm proud of myself and I'm ALSO pleased that I now have a pass to do very little for the rest of the day!

Glimpsed my avoidant ex from a distance after 100+ days no contact and didn't fall to the floor a crying heap.

Onwards and upwards! He was probably an arse and you're better off without him. I always thought he had stupid hair anyway.

Have a wonderful time! I hope she enjoys it.

I didn’t strangle my coworker.

You should all be proud of me.

I didn't tell a fellow volunteer to eff off. Took a fair bit of self control.

Forced myself off my arse and went to work even though I wanted to stay on the sofa scoffing crisps and watching Benidorm all afternoon. 😁

I think we'd be best friends 😆

You should be proud! That's brilliant. Also a good excuse to treat yourself to some new trainers.

🤣 and you are a better person for it. Difficult when you are there through choice rather than necessity though.

Ok. You win the thread.

Me, too, @NormasArse ! It's hard work when there are just two of us in... for days... and it's been like baby-sitting a grown adult who can't be left unsupervised, unless they are on their phone... It has been infuriating!

Apart from that, nothing has gone wrong so far this week. Long may it continue!

DilemmaDelilah · 10/06/2026 10:49

Well done OP!

Not much to be proud of today really, but I have roasted rhubarb for a cake, made the cake, made the curry sauce flavouring for coronation chicken and cleared up the kitchen.

I am suffering permanent side effects from cancer treatment so that is a LOT for me!

Waddaya mean, nothing to be proud of??? That's LOADS! Make sure you have a big slice of the cake as a reward x

DilemmaDelilah · 10/06/2026 15:20

Thank you @theworldisadarkplace . I won't be eating the cake as I am not only diabetic but also on a diet ☹️, but DH tells me it is nice 😁.

“ … and considered whether we even needed electricity really …”

This made me smile, @AutismPosts. And I needed that. You write with such a lovely, quirky style. That’s a gift.

laddersandsnakes16 · 10/06/2026 15:44

After months of avoiding doing any writing, today I’ve finally broken a streak of procrastination and avoidance by continuing to write my family saga story. I didn’t write a huge amount, but the point is I wrote and I’m trying to take each writing day as it comes and remembering that to eat an elephant, you must break it all down into smaller pieces first. This makes it feel less overwhelming and more do-able!

That is a huge amount! Well done. Roast beetroot cake sounds delicious.

Resigned my job!

Cathmawr · 10/06/2026 21:59

This is a lovely thread. Well done everyone!

Today I drove around twisty single track mountain roads to take my toddler on an adventure picnic in the national park. I was a late learner and since passing last Summer I've avoided them but have realised the longer I leave the scarier it will be to face my fears!

BeneficialOrange · 10/06/2026 22:13

I've been doing phonics interventions with a child who had stalled months ago and become completely disengaged in class. We've been trying a new way this week and he had a mini breakthrough. Managed to spell 4 words correctly and was pleased with himself for doing it! He's never cared either way before, so it was lovely to see his pride. He even willingly wrote a sentence with me in class later.

I know he's done the hardest bit, but I feel bloody proud of both of us. He's a very challenging child in every direction and it's been a hard couple of weeks to get here.

GenerousGardener · 10/06/2026 22:15

Managed to keep my thoughts about my manipulative MIL to myself.

Olive42 · 10/06/2026 22:38

Got 25 children (secondary) reading in silence for 20 minutes and then talked about what they had read. It doesn’t sound like much but I like to think it’s a small achievement in a screen/saturated world. Most seemed to enjoy it. 👍☺️
Have had to be strict with routines to get this to work.

CleanSkin · 10/06/2026 22:52

Kept my calm when my elderly parents were behaving like bickering children.
Actually I was very chuffed that I managed to achieve that!

There are so many great accomplishments on this thread, thanks for starting it @AutismPosts - I particularly love the young & old children with books Star

eta - well done @generousgardener
