So, the last thread filled up so quickly, I barely got a chance to reply to most people. I really wasn't expecting that but I was reassured by the vast majority of replies.
I always like to see a follow up so I'll post this for anyone who's interested.
Anyway, the neighbours turned down our offer of the office space for now but did say the may take us up on it in the coming weeks.
We now have issues on the other side as neighbour there has claimed that knocking our garden wall did damage to his conservatory window. Thankfully, our builders took photos of said conservatory before they knocked the wall as they've clearly been around the block a few times and cracks were there before.
Pretty sure we'll be social pariahs by the time we move in. Such a pity!
I will, of course, be delivering presents to both sets of neighbours in recognition of the hardship they're facing at the moment.

she didn’t in her original thread, everyone else said GCSEs a lot, but she posted it was about leaving cert and didn’t mention GCSEs.

She said it’s the Leaving Certificate (Ireland).

  1. we don't know if it's GCSEs, a levels or degree exams.
  2. different exam boards will have different finish dates.
  3. clearly they won't be over in a week if the neighbour says they may take the office offer up in the coming weeks.

A week? No.
The original thread I think was asking them to wait 3 weeks until the exams over.

Why should anyone? It would've cost them £30k to put it back, as well as a nightmare of getting all the builders back again.
They offered noise cancelling headphones and use of an office.

Would the neighbours say the same if utilities started digging up outside their home?!! No. It's just unfortunate timing but ultimately, they are not responsible for their neighbours exams.

Thanks for the update! You've done all you can, like you said just small presents after the works are done x

Eddielizzard · 09/06/2026 20:38

You've bent over backwards to be accommodating. If I were your neighbour I would have been happy with what you've offered. Sadly, my neighbour isn't nearly as lovely as you... grrrrr

What bee is in your bonnet @Scrumptiousy, to keep getting every post deleted?
