AIBU to expect council repairs to offer booked appointment slots?

Does anyone else’s council do this? Ours has changed to not making app for repairs/surveys etc and it’s an absolute nightmare.

If you log a repair you can’t make an appt day and time. You just get someone turn up within a specified time eg 20 days for non urgent repairs but they don’t tell you when . So then they leave a card and only attempt another day again with no appointment and then it gets cancelled ? I’ve had to email and say I need an appointment date and time as I have to book the time off ! Apparently it’s not possible the most we can do is pick a day but then if it’s anytime in the next 20 days I can’t take 3 Mondays off in a row for example !!!

That's totally bonkers. It must be incredibly expensive for them as well, because then their mending people go out and can't fix anything? At the very least surely they could say "would you rather have an appointment or for us to come as soon as possible?"

That's crazy, my local authority gives a date and a morning or afternoon slot. Who has the time to sit in and wait, just in case they turn up?!

You have my sympathies!

Ours does a random day initially but leave a card and then you can book a specific day but not always a time slot, although they often offer morning or afternoon

My housing association in theory has appointments but in reality you get workmen showing up whenever and copping an attitude if they can't get in.

It's like they think everyone in social housing is available every day without any notice.

Although as MN appear to generally think everyone who lives in council or HA property are all either at home or on long haul holidays at the tax payers expense I'm sure plenty of others will disagree with you 😉

Ours isn't even that good.

Request a repair and at a random time the work person will call, not leave a message or email or visit. If you don't answer they cancel it.

Then when they do come it's 50/50 whether it is a permanent fix or you will need to call again, and the cycle repeats.

A family member has been trying to get a non-essential, but annoying, repair fixed since before Christmas. They finally have a date next week after at least 6 reports.

My HA do this. They claim their diary doesn't allow them to give specific times. But they moan if you're not at home

My private slum landlord was exactly the same. I had to keep spelling it out to him until he actually realised it was less hassle to check I was in.
