Should I go to minor injuries X-ray yet? Or wait longer?

I hurt my foot last saturday - a ladder accident where the ladder collapsed when I was on it and I fell off and it landed on my foot.
Nasty bruise on the top of my foot and around my ankle.
Didn't really swell up and I could still walk.
I'm wondering now if I may have broken a small bone though. There's a hardish small lump on top of my foot now and it still hurts as much as last saturday.
WIBU to go to minor injuries and ask for an Xray? Or should I hang on for longer to see if it gets better? What benefit would an Xray do anyway other than to clarify the situation?
Or do I try and get a Dr's app?? (lol)

I would go to small injuries. If your local one is like mine they are fast , efficient and nice. They will check everything over. You might need physio even if nothing is broken, as ligaments and tendons can take a long time to heal .

Last Saturday as in two days ago or the one before?

blanketsnuggler · 08/06/2026 12:25

@RollOnSunshine - as in 9 days ago

I would just go to minor injuries, they can answer all those questions and do an x-ray if they think it's necessary.

I think I broke my foot in Portugal and never had it looked at. That was nine years ago and I still have problems with it. I think it’s worth getting it checked out.

No point in going to the GP. You need an x ray

blanketsnuggler · 09/06/2026 18:09

Thanks all. I went and got an X Ray and nothing is broken, which is good, except now I feel like I've wasted their time. Apparently it will take up to a month before it might stop hurting though. At least I know now I guess.

Glad you got it sorted .

I once stood up - yes literally stood up! - and the tip of my foot went. It went totally black within minutes. Was tendons. It took 2 weeks before I could walk properly and a few more weeks before it stopped twinging.

you didn’t waste anyone’s time. You’d need a lot more NHS care if you’d broken it and damaged it further by walking around on it unknown!

SilenceInside · 09/06/2026 18:14

You had a minor injury and you got it checked out at minor injuries. That’s not a waste of anyone’s time.

Talkingfrog · 09/06/2026 19:17

You haven't wasted their time. You have used the appropriate health care provision for your situation.

You wouldn't have known it wasn't broken if you didn't go. If they thought it was a waste of time, they wouldn't have sent you for an x ray.

It may not be broken, but you still have an injury. I would guess they have suggested things you should/shouldn't do while it recovers.

If you hadn't gone, and it had been broken, further down the line you could have needed treatment that would have used more nhs time and resources, and been more painful for you than the current situation.

Hope you recover soon

blanketsnuggler · 09/06/2026 22:12

yes, you're right, better to have checked it now than need treatment 2 years down the line. Thanks everyone. xx
