Glp1 for PCOS?

Fueoe · 07/06/2026 21:26

I have PCOS and am about 15 pounds overweight. I’ve seen that you can get prescribed glp 1 if you have pcos and meet a bmi of 27.5.

has anyone here done it for that? And seen benefits? I majorly struggle with sugar cravings due to insulin resistance and believe this could help.

I thought it would be amazing as I too have PCOS, I felt awful on it, constant gall bladder flare ups and lost 1 pounds in 2 months. Metformin on prescription has a better effect for me alongside slimming world.

Ah I’m sorry! Had you had gall bladder issues before taking it?

Yes tit didn't cause it but it irritated it really badly, for example I've been unable to eat sausages for years because it flares up and the GLP1 was like I'd been to a barbecue and eaten burgers, hot dogs and beer when actually I'd eaten a small portion of salmon and green beans. I was definitely in a calorie deficit as I'd been losing on slimming world at the rate of around half a pound a month and just wanted to speed things up. I was definitely eating less on the glp 1 but I didn't lose. It was so strange. I was so constipated too despite drinking lots of water and so bloated.

On the other hand I definitely had less brain noise in general. I've quite a noisy and busy brain and possibly ADHD which I normally really have to manage to get all my work paperwork etc done. Suddenly that wasn't a challenge at all, both the food noise and general noise reduced. I might have kept increasing the dose to see if it started to work better but the sickness was insufferable. Might try again once the gallbladder is out hopefully this year

I took it for severe sugar cravings I experienced in peri, I was a long distance runner and slim then put on over 30 pounds in two years

I didn’t have a big appetite and food /portion control was never an issue for me, sugar was and i could not control this ..I took the smallest dose and it worked for me regulated my blood sugar and im back to my normal weight

I’m on MJ and have found I’m a slow responder which I’m not sure if it is down to the PCOS. I’ve been on it a year aside from 3 month break when I had my gallbladder removed (had problems before I started taking it). BMI at the start was 45 so had a lot to lose but I’ve only lost 2.5 stone. It’s coming down so I’m not complaining but that’s been my experience

Not quite the same but I have pcos and have used Mounjaro privately and have found it incredible. I’ve gone from 12 st 9 to 8 1/2 stone.

I’ve got insulin resistant PCOS and had a starting weight of 16st, BMI of 35. Paid for it privately and my god the results were phenomenal from day 1. No side effects beyond some hair loss and 3 sulphur burps one morning about 3 months in.
Now sitting at 9st with a BMI hovering around 20 with no intentions of ever coming off it.
Didn’t bother with the gp tbh, they’ve always been shit with my PCOS and instead would have referred me to weightloss clinic for 2 years which seems to be their standard.

Thank you all! This is encouraging, I think I’ll go ahead!

I have lost 9 stone on MJ, I have PCOS. I have had no side effects really apart from hair loss in the early days but that was due to rapid weight loss not specifically MJ. Thankfully I was able to gain some balance and my regrowth of hair is going strong. It was hard to eat enough in the beginning tbh as the drug hit me like a train, I stayed in the 2.5mg for a year and then slowly increased to 5mg.

I did it many years ago - almost as soon as the NHS started offering GLP-1s, around 2011-12, because metformin makes me very ill and I begged for an alternative. I didn't have any side effects and certainly nothing like metformin.
I didn't lose weight on it; it's perfectly possible to take them and not lose weight unless you also eat less, but my A1c and blood sugar stabilised immediately.
I did eventually lose weight (BMI is currently 23), but that was due to sorting out something else medically, not GLP-1s. It probably wouldn't have been as possible or as effective without the GLP-1 though.
I came off of them twice because they're not approved for use in pregnancy, didn't gain any weight back during those times. My weight's been stable since 2022.

Metformin and Myo iniositol is brilliant for pmos. Aim for 4-6g of myo a day.
Mounjaro is brilliant, but it made me feel very ill.
I'm now on Wegovy, slowly losing weight without the side effects of mounjaro.
