Economic growth and religious throwback laws

On the one hand we need economic growth and jobs, on the other hand we are being kicked out of a busy shopping centre on a Sunday because of religious laws from before most of the population was born. I don't get it

Poor shop working people. Let them have an early finish on a Sunday. Thank goodness for that.

@Ukholidaysaregreatthat used to be the argument, when the "full time " adults ran the shop in the week and "Saturday kids" took over at the weekend. If the work around neets and UC has revealed anything it is that retail is mostly made up of part time contracts across the week

Hmm. There are bigger growth inhibitors we could be worried about. Like the outrageously hypocritical NIMBYs that come out screaming whenever anyone thinks of building something that will generate growth.

I live in Scotland. A company has suggested building a data centre in a former mining community where there’s a dearth of jobs. It’s real ‘man the pitchforks’ stuff from the Neanderthal locals. Like they’re never going to use any modern technology themselves or rely on welfare that would be hindered by the failure to hop on board with the next Industrial Revolution…. Absolute idiots. There’s LOADS of them. This is repeated all over the UK. It’s so embarrassing.

And shops opening on Sundays. At least here in Scotland they open for the full day. I was chatting to the checkout person yesterday. She loves working Sundays as it fits in with her lifestyle better. No one has a gun at her head. If she didn’t want to do it they’d have to pay more to incentivise people.
