AIBU to wonder why so many dogs are found without tags

Why do so many dog owners not put tags on their dogs when its a legal requirement? Ive seen so many dogs this week on my local Facebook page, who have got out however they are not wearing tags. I get some people take there fogs collars off in the home, but the amount of strays found without a collar is huge. (For context my dog allways wears her collar and tag unless in her crate due to safety)

YABU it should be up to the owner to decide whether to use a collar and tag.

YANBU all dogs unless legaly exempt should wear a collar and tag, unless the risk of injury in the home is too high, eg crates.

Awww! Yes, they have the fattest necks and he really does look ridiculous in a collar. He’s an American so super fat.

My girl is an American Akita as well and she is a bit on the chunky side! Lovely big soft lump, unless anyone dares walk past the front window lol

There is no law that requires a dog to wear a collar! They must have a tag when out but it is perfectly ok to have that tag on a harness not a collar.

The law as stated by OP is specifically a collar with tag. The legislation states "wear a collar with the name and address of the owner inscribed on the collar or on a plate or badge attached to it".

I do tend to only use a harness with tag as we live rurally, but after being told off by the vet for not using a collar, I now always use them for medical appointments or if they are, rarely, in an urban area.

The vet understood my reasoning/ mistake but explained that it is easier to control the head (bite risk) with a collar, so I don't anticipate the law changing to include harnesses any time soon.

I'm 99% sure my dog thinks her collar is her entire identity. She gets so upset when I take it off for brushing.

I've a neighbor a few doors down whos dog always gets out and I always find it on my drive. If it had a collar it would be much easier to get him back home the 5 doors down than bundle it in my car and walk up to go knock.
