Work related - grievance

Holidaymodeon · 07/06/2026 09:30

Hi, posting here for traffic!
Writing a grievance, ACAS has advised it but won’t read it prior to sending.
Can’t go to citizens advice as it is linked to my work…
is there a legitimate organisation who will read my grievance prior to sending?
it is long and covers so many issues in multiple areas, primarily disability discrimination, bullying and poor, possibly illegal practices but I am conscious I am coming from a place of high stress and emotion as well as sick with pain and don’t want to write a sprawling document that might be overkill and not taken seriously.
I’m neurodivergent and have been told I give too much info and find it really hard to pare down whilst maintaining the importance of the grievance.

thank you

I’m thinking potentially constructive dismissal, especially as the lack of adaptation has further harmed me physically and mentally and is making it especially hard to find further work at the moment until i hopefully recover.
I honestly don’t know if that’s the route I want to go down.
it’s unfair that disabled people are frequently pushed out like this but have to worry about ‘marking their card’, surely those bosses should be worried about their reputation as people who willfully contravene the equality act knowing / hoping that vulnerable workers are too scared to speak up?

I think you might be better off with disability discrimination/failure to make reasonable adjustments.

I'm not legally qualified, so do check this, but as far as I understand constructive dismissal is hard to prove, and a claim can only be brought after you've left.

With reasonable adjustments (not sure about disability discrimination), the onus is more on the employer to demonstrate thay they made these adjustments/it was not reasonable for them to do so.

no! There is more than one person posting threads on this subject, I lose count of how many people have asked me the same question in this thread. Please see post from @KimMumsnet higher up thread

Apologies

Yeah but that’s not what I did. I advised to use the information she has, but to add a bullet pointed lost at the front provided by ai.

anyone who is stupid enough to add an ai sheet to the beginning of their document without ensuring the summary is accurate and reflects what they want to say probably isn’t even capable enough of writing one of their own so no harm no foul.

I use ai constantly in my role in banking, it is a complementary tool, not a replacement for critical thinking. I feed it documents, and then ask it to answer questions, I then converse with it to achieve the right results by adding context to what it is saying, giving it additional data points and things to consider. Anyone just sending a first draft isn’t using it properly, I suspect that this is your experience with your colleagues, it is with a lot of mine too. What you cannot deny though is that when used properly AI can improve the quality of your work, and allow you to focus on improving and amending the output detail while it does the bulkier block writing that forms the base.

Thank you. I’m actually a good writer usually and it’s been a huge part of my job for decades but I’m injured including my dominant hand, I’m on strong opiates and I have huge anxiety and depression from this on top of my existing conditions so I just don’t know how or where to start without exploding all my guts and early hours ruminations onto paper, I’m typing with my wrong hand mainly using one finger and speaking into the phone microphone, it’s a slog

Do you have real life support? A partner?

No 😭
I have an enabler for help with household chores once a week but any kind of admin is not their forte, they have been incredibly patient listening to me rant and offload but I feel guilty as it’s not their job to deal with my wok grievances .

Just under a year. Part of the reason I stayed so long . Apart from hoping they’d come good 🙈 was because I don’t want such a short lived job on my cv

Yeah I see no issue at all with utilising AI as an effective support tool. You’ve done the work by getting down in bulk, now just get AI to help you create a short introduction that says what your grievance is, correct it as you go so that it says what you want it to say, and take it from there.

And how long previous job? Could you go back there?

And how long previous job? Could you go back there?

I was there years. I was bored, saw this ‘dream job’ by chance and went fo it, my old job was perfect for me an my life stage, lovely team, amazing bosses, I just wanted more stimulation and regret it hugely. Sadly I took a n extended break between jobs, hilariously (!) I nearly retracted my job acceptance multiple times due to conversations with my soon to be new boss, a classic case of ignoring red flags / alarm bells, as an nd person I’m prone to overthinking so talked myself out of it.

in that time, my job was absorbed into my old team, and is very unlikely to come up again. I loved my old managers, they didn’t want me to go, were always praising me etc, it’s been such a shock to experience this with my current job, there’s a lot of unethical practices too, it’s not just about me, it’s morally injurious as well as personally.

If you have a local law centre they may be able to help or try the ehrc

Tinglylips · 07/06/2026 15:01

Can’t understand why you can’t go to citizens advice. It is completely confidential

join a union - they are normally only around £7-£10 per month. They will help you

Unions rarely if ever help in these situations. It is like buying household insurance after the flood.

Wingedharpy · 07/06/2026 15:37

Have you looked at the Access to Work scheme OP?
There may (or may not) be useful information there which could be helpful to you, and potentially your employer, which may negate the need for a grievance going forward.
Sadly, there's nothing available to fix a nasty boss though.
Good luck.

Thank you. I gave them all my access to work recommendations from previous post before I started plus I brought in lots of actual practical equipment when I joined. They ignored the recommendations from ATW . I have re-referred myself to them but the waiting list is huge

Something isn’t right here. You don’t transfer ATW grants between employers automatically. You should have had a review with ATW and a new award made for the support you need there. They also don’t support reasonable adjustments - did you have an occ health assessment during the recruitment process?

ItTook9Years · 07/06/2026 17:47

Did you have permission to take equipment from your previous employer?

You brought across equipment from your previous employer to your new employer? Really? That was completely wrong. The ATW grant doesnt transfer. The new employer has to process.

Can you elaborate on this @Holidaymodeon ?

They agreed it as was specialised individually tailored for my specific condition , many employers have done this and do this where nobody else can use it

So this is a very rare condition they your previous employer was unlikely to ever employ again?

Unless this is the case, then no way should grant appliances be taken from one employer to another one

How do you manage to be a single parent? Do you get support with your children?
