AIBU to not pay for work done on my house?

I recently had to have my flat dormer roof quite extensively repaired. The builder who did it left things on the flat roof (not the scaffolding) while he was working on it and by this I mean he would go off for the weekend or evening and leave items up there. Within a couple of days a heavy bag of stones had fallen down onto my Conservatory Roof. He left it there for a couple of days before he came to remove it. I’m surprised it didn’t go through.

A week later he left over the weekend and left more equipment on my flat roof knowing it would be windy. Ultimately, a big roll of roofing felt fell down two storeys and through my Conservatory Roof badly damaging a couple of panels.

He clipped it back in and is saying he will replace it but quite a few panels in that area now have bits falling from them inside the conservatory (almost like moss, mould, bits of window seals maybe?). I haven’t heard from him and he is ignoring my messages. He hasn’t given me the bill either yet and I don’t want to pay anyway until this is sorted. The conservatory roof could do with replacing anyway but was hoping to leave it a couple more years due to cost. Now I feel like I need to do is asap as one new panel isn’t going to make a big difference and it will look different to the rest possibly?

Just to add - he spilt a can of tar down my garden wall from the scaffolding then painted over it in a different colour to the rest of the wall. He also left for the weekend and told me the roof was watertight - rain came through at an alarming rate and I was emptying 2 buckets every 10 minutes causing further plaster damage to my bedroom ceiling.

Aibu to tell him I don’t want him doing anymore work on my house and I will deduct the damage from my bill (which will probably mean I’m paying him next to nothing)? I would rather have someone else repair the damage.

I feel pretty stressed by the whole thing and don’t know what is a fair outcome? Would appreciate opinions please, thanks in advance.

First of all take as many photos of all the damage and if possible dig out any before pics if you can. I wouldn't pay a penny until everything has been repaired. Are you confident in his work? Has he done a good job apart from damaging other areas?
ETA get a quote to repair everything from someone else and send it to him. I think it's fair to say that you've lost confidence in his abilities.

Good god, are you really thinking of paying him? I'd be suing him.

Op Ask him for his insurers details and, if you have any legal cover with your house insurance, speak to them. His insurance should sort out any repairs needed.

What would I be suing him for though? I think my only option is to get the work done by someone else and deduct it from his bill. I guess he could take legal action though?

He’s ignoring my messages at the moment so not like I can reach a fair conclusion with him 🙄 I feel like as a single woman I get the piss taken out of me by tradesmen and this is the icing on the cake!

I had some workmen do an eye wateringly appalling job. The trades person I got in to fix it said he’d never seen anything so bad. The original tradesmen wanted to fix the job, they were so lacking in skills it was pointless. I wrote them an email telling them not to return. When they asked for payment, i then gave them a list of what it would cost to re do the shoddy work which pretty much covered what I would have paid them, then said I hoped we could leave it there and that I wouldn’t have to take it further. I took a lot of photos and would have taken it to whatever ombudsman etc I had to, if it had come to that. I never heard from them again, thankfully.

The thing is I think he did a relatively decent job on the actual roof so I would feel bad not paying him at all. However, I’m left with more repairs and the need to replace the conservatory roof sooner rather than later. Not sure what a fair negotiation would be
