AIBU to consider laser hair removal?

I am getting really itchy and inflamed lower legs. The itching keeps me awake at night and they now look terrible.

i wonder if shaving and the hot weather are to blame. I shave in the direction of growth, use moisturisers, antihistamines, try not to scratch, and sometimes steroid cream but it’s just not improving. I’m currently awake with an ice pack on them to numb the crazy itching!

I’ve read that laser hair removal will permanently get rid of the hair. Would this help? Anyone done it? I’m just hesitating because it will be about £500, so a massive decision.

advice on this or anything else that can help would be appreciated 😬
thank you

You could try removing hair with cream instead. Or waxing.
But in general - laser works well for hair removal.
Question is whether your itching is related to shaving or if it is something else.

I'd start with a cream and see if it makes a difference.

I would. I brought phillips ipl as menopause started causing so many ingrown hairs casuing boils and lumps. Its good but time consuming. I wish id bit the bullet and just got professional laser.

I've done laser and it's great, 10 years later I have very little regrowth. Though I do have very itchy legs at the minute, for me I think it's linked to premenopausal symptoms.

Laser is fantastic in its own right for hair removal (depending on the type of hair you
have!) but as PP have said the itching might not be the hair removal. It also takes a long time - there is mean to be about 6weeks between sessions to capture regrowth cycles so you won’t see the benefit for some time. You might something like a lymphatic massage or acupuncture can help instead and more quickly. You could also try a magnesium spray, which is proven to help with restless legs and could be connected

Laser hair removal is a long-term commitment, but I like the results on my legs! I have a mixture of very pale, sensitive skin, and very dark body hair, which led to a lot of ingrown hairs with waxing and shaving. My legs now only itch on very hot days, when they sweat in my work trousers.

thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I’m tempted to go for it.

but I didn’t realise itchy legs was a perimenopause symptom 😱.

i recently asked my GP about HRT for tiredness and bone health but they said no - I’m too young to have full symptoms. I’m early 40s.
Maybe I should ask about the itching as well.

I'm currently having laser on my legs and underarms. Seeing much slower progress on my legs but definitely less ingrowns than before! Can't wait to get going with Brazilian next.

I chose to pay per session until I could see how my body responded. £500 is a lot if you don't take to it.

I had 1 session in a laser salon when a friend was training. I have pale skin and dark hair. I was left with only 4 underarms hairs and where the laser was done on my bikini line (down the sides) maybe 1-2 hairs left.

There was a thread recently where others said their hair grew back during pregnancy or later on. I was pregnant 3x, sadly all ended in MC, but my hair hasn't grown back. I then bought a braun IPL to use at home. No where near as strong as the salon laser. I used in on my chin, legs, arms and DHs back. Strangely it thinned my arm hair (which wasn't thick or really that noticeable beforehand) by about 75% but made no difference to DH's back or my chin.

I agree that if the itching is a new thing then likely hormonal related.
