AIBU not to rewash laundry after it gets rained on?

I don't bother rewashing laundry that's got caught in the rain and then dried again.... Life's too short... Yes I'm lazy.

Once it’s rained on it’s out there until it dries, as far as I’m concerned. Might be different if I lived in a town where the rain might not be as clean as here.

lazyarse123 · 05/06/2026 16:27

I'm lazy too because I never have. Just look on it as an Extra rinse. I may have spun them if they were wringing wet.
Sorry just seen if they've dried again, job done as far as I'm concerned.

TheChosenTwo · 05/06/2026 16:28

I haven’t rewashed washing that got a bit wet, it’s rain! But I’ve washed washing that got forgot about for a couple of rainy days while we were away once, it was very soggy and also on the floor (we have an airer rather than a washing line which I put down the side of the house, I didn’t want a washing line ruining the view of my garden but it meant we forgot about it before we left 😂).

Whosthetabbynow · 05/06/2026 16:47

Nah, sod that. I’d leave it.

NattyRedFinch · 05/06/2026 16:55

I did that once with my bed sheets and they stank. Never again.

How long were they outside for? I've never had an issue with washing that has been showered on.

MrsMoastyToasty · 05/06/2026 16:56

Rain water is probably softer than out tap water so I would leave it out for an extra rinse.

nutbrownhare15 · 05/06/2026 16:57

Why would you?

Myswweetchild · 05/06/2026 17:00

Oh, god, it's a No from me
But one of my greatest pleasures is watching my washing dry
I'd do it again 🤣

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 05/06/2026 17:03

I washed it again once after it had been on the line for five weeks and on the garden path for a further week and a half.

#standards.

🤣🤣🤣 - love it

muddyford · 05/06/2026 18:04

Unless it's all speckled with pollution I wouldn't bother. Our air is clean but I might respin if it's really soggy.

TeaPot496 · 05/06/2026 18:09

I'd say yanbu but for all the saharan dust that's been in the blood rain here recently

After they had been rained on once. I didn’t leave them out for days or anything!

ShetlandishMum · 06/06/2026 08:26

Couldn't bother less.

Me neither

Gypsywomanx · 06/06/2026 08:27

Yes of course!

TheRealMagic · 06/06/2026 08:28

Absolutely not, I just consider it to have had a little extra rinse

TheRealMagic · 06/06/2026 08:29

But then I quite often - gasp - hang my washing out at night, which means it will inevitably getting dewy in the morning and then dry, so if I rewashed then I'd never actually get any washing dry!

UniquePinkSwan · 06/06/2026 08:29

Hanging it out anyway is minging so rain isn’t going to make it any worse

Why do you think so?

Bigtrapeze · 06/06/2026 08:31

I had never considered rewashing clothes that got wet on the line. Mine sometimes stays out for days until it's dry. Surely the domestic water supply comes from rain. Equally if clothes get wet while I am wearing them in the rain I don't rewash them but let them dry. Seems a waste of natural resources to re-wash to me.

Wtaf? Why?

I don’t if it’s been caught in a shower. As long as it’s dried fully afterwards, before it’s put away, it doesn’t smell.

Technically rain water is distilled. Apart from the pollution in the air it might pick up on the way down.

So yup. I agree with you, leave it out.

Unless there has been a dry spell. Cos then the air will be loaded with pollution.

Where I live the pollution can be very bad. And the rain water can be filthy. But if it has been raining a while the rain water is clean.

Civilsociety · 06/06/2026 08:37

This has never even occurred to me and I live in a city.
