AIBU to think this police visit suggests organised crime or a serious quantity drugs raid?

I want to know: is a 'morning knock on the door' of eight plain clothes (wearing police vests) and two uniformed wearing Police Medic back plates and carrying kit, is indicative of disrupting organized crime or an expected high amount drugs raid?

Or would that number and type of police turn out like that for lower level crime?

(If your knowledge is based on your profession it would be good to hear)

I should have said there is a large ferocious bully type dog living there.

Not always.

a close, younger family member had an almost identical experience (6 officers), he had graffiti’d on a wall 2 years earlier and it was quite obvious it was him, because it was his name. He’d ignored police requests to come to the station for an interview.

the dramatic police presence wasn’t for him per se, but 2 other older family members in the same home who had a long history of violent crimes, and aggression with the police, they knew that things would escalate with the other two when they arrived to take the graffiti family member, they weren’t wrong. I’m glad they sent reinforcements because it’s just not always safe to only come in pairs if there are other violent unpredictable people in the home.

they’d planned it early on a weekday which I thought was sensible as it meant hopefully the extra officers could be spared, as opposed to, say, 10pm on a Saturday.

he was home by lunchtime with a caution, it would sound ludicrous to have sent so many officers if I didn’t know the other two so well.

It’s a waste of resources but where is the line? They can’t just say ‘oh so-and-so is from THAT family, best just ignore it’ if they commit a crime, even a small one I suppose.

Not necessarily. If there is an outstanding warrant and previous violence or abuse , they’d arrive in a group to limit any injuries.
It could be anything illegal.
Wasn’t there a heavy handed police presence for a school watsapp group comment recently?

Enoughpleasebreaksneeded · 04/06/2026 17:59

But wouldn't they be uniformed not plain clothes?

The heavy handed whatsapp one was uniformed.

I may be being ignorant but I thought plain clothes officers where generally CID, drugs, gangs, organised crime etc?

@Quamarina Thank you. Does seem OTT for a bit of graffiti, but yes makes sense if they're going to face violence.

Aside from the dog, I doubt this lot would do worse to police than try and escape. They are horribly violent to others but from what I've seen play the game with police.

If they where worried about the dog being set on them, I assume they'd bring a kitted out dog handler.

@Enoughpleasebreaksneeded the whole thing sounds very odd. If they have enough intelligence on the family to arrest them for drugs / organised crime / other, you’d expect that they’d know about the dog & would have brought a handler along.

the medics are the strangest part for me!

Enoughpleasebreaksneeded · 04/06/2026 18:29

I found it all really odd but was hopeful it might be a sign that they're finally doing something. Probably just dreaming.

The medics are the odd bit. I wonder if it was a mental health scenario hence medics too. I didn’t know police had medics (I mean I know they are first aid first responder trained but not enough to have “medic” on their vests).

StartingFreshFor2026 · 04/06/2026 19:17

I don't know, didn't the police send 8 officers to arrest that couple for saying mildly sarcastic things in a parent WhatsApp group?

Oh, if they're horribly violent to others and have an XL bully then that might be the reason. I didn't read the posts fully, oops.

I've only ever seen police medics before at protests.

They didn't send them for a woman who was sectioned either. She was being sectioned because she was dangerous and they'd had enough. There was just a couple of burly uniformed officers to back up SW and Dr.
