Saw a driver scrape another car in a car park, WWYD?

I was walking back to my car in a car park earlier today and I saw someone trying to park and they scraped the car next to them, I did say to the lady when she got out of the car that she had scraped the car and to be fair she was very apologetic and said she would leave a note but I didn’t stick around to see if she actually did. WWYD? Just leave it or is there something else I could do? I got a pic of both cars so I have the reg numbers.

Can you leave a note with your number? Someone did that to me once after my car was hit they had a video out the window because the driving was so bad, my car was mostly fine but the police still send a warning letter that they can't go around hitting cars and driving off and I was happy with that

Round here people post on the relevant Facebook hub.

Just post on FB if this is your car and it was parked at x today, I have the details of the car that hit you and drove off. It's so shitty and the driver will be so grateful.

I saw this in Sainsburys car park a couple of months ago. A woman in a big car just swung in to a space too fast and hit the car beside her. She then just got out of her car and went into the shop without even looking at the car she had hit. We were about to leave, but stopped to take some photos and to write a note to the owner of the damaged car to say what had happened, and to contact us (gave email address ) if he wanted a witness for insurance purposes or for us to send the photos.

Wouldn't it be better to do this privately rather than announce any involvement publicly.

Round here you would post on Fife Jammers FB page.

If the said driver that caused the damage didnt care to leave a note wtf would you not name and shame???

Saddlesore · 04/06/2026 20:29

I came back to my car parked in a supermarket to find a note under my wiper from someone who witnessed the car next to me bump my car as it was swinging in. The witness even confronted the driver and took his details for me, along with photos and left her number for me to call.

I was very grateful for that information, and for her interception. I was able to pursue the matter. Turned out that the driver (elderly) didn’t want to go through his insurance company as he’d had a few prangs recently (!). He paid for the whole repair for me.

How?

HumanOfTheWeek · 04/06/2026 21:03

You can post anonymously on the FB group

Agree, shaming people publicly is not necessary, I think it’s really nasty and harks back to public floggings- use Facebook to help and find the driver, but for all you know they left a note as they said they would.

I wouldn’t want to name and shame! I don’t even have the ladies name. She was an older lady and I think it was a genuine accident and not sure she even knew she had done it until I pointed it out to her. She was sweet and thanked me, but she didn’t seem sure on what to do which is understandable. I’m just not sure she would of left a note and wouldn’t want to leave it if I could potentially help the owner of the damaged car

Report it to police as my partners car got hit in a carpark. No note left. It ended up getting written off and we had to suck up the loss and the insurance premium. Happens all the time now.
