To tell you about this scam

Posting here for traffic. I was having a bad day and feeling quite upset, and impulsively bought some clothes online. I must have clicked on a Facebook ad called Gothnrock. I ordered in large and extra large. The stuff has come, but the clothes look to be like a UK size 6 or 8. I'm more like a 16. I emailed them about returning the items, and I got an email back saying that I would have to ship the items internationally at my own cost. They said as this is quite expensive and time consuming, they can instead offer me a 40% discount code on another order. I said What's the address for a full refund, and they sent me this address in China

Building 4, 4th floor, 58 Baiye Road Dongguan, Guangdong province Zip code: 523000 China

When I googled the address, it's a known scam. I'm going to my bank to report it tomorrow. The stuff wasn't even cheap. It was $99 for 2 items. I paid in pounds, but it says dollars on the email.

Just wanted to obviously warn people, and see if anyone else knows about this address, as it seems to be an umbrella company for several websites, not just "Gothnrock"

If I see something on Facebook that looks great I go to Trustpilot and see the reviews and the country of origin. Most stuff on Facebook is as you describe.

blubberball · Today 17:12

Just to add that the emails were just giving off a scammy vibe any way, with loads of spelling mistakes and the changing spelling of the made up person's name signing it off. Sometimes Patricia, sometimes Patricja

Bad luck. There are so many scammers on Facebook. It helps to check Trustpilot before ordering.

It's infuriating isn't it. Sadly it's so widespread now and I hate to add to your woes, but it's not just the waste of time and money with the clothes, but they're stealing data too.

I am not sure it's a "scam", unless the T&C lied about free returns or returning items to the uk.

Sadly, it's very common with all these companies. Most don't refuse the returns, but it's so expensive it's not worth it.

Leave a review on trustpilot so others can know, it's better than MN

I agree. Always check on Trustpilot and see what the issues are on the negative ones.

MickyMoonshine · Today 17:17

You might be able to get your money back from your bank.
I did something similar and complained to my bank on the basis that they weren’t as advertised and the company were refusing to issue a refund.

I got my money back.

blubberball · Today 17:18

Thank you for the trust pilot recommendation. I will check that from now on

Depending on how you paid, you may be able to dispute the transaction with your card provider. If the items are not fit for purpose, faulty, or not as described, you have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and that may support a chargeback or Section 75 claim, provided you can evidence the problem.

What’s the scam? Surely you do a 2 second good to check if a company is real or not? Isn’t that just plain common sense?

MrsPapillon · Today 17:22

I also got a refund from the bank (I paid by debit card) for shoes that were quite different to the ones I ordered. The website looked British and had a UK address but the return address was in China when I emailed them about returns. Give it a try.

If the company isn't real, then it's a scam. That's what the scam is.

I looked on the website and there are size charts for each item? They do seem to run small, but the measurements are right there?

The scam is typically that the company appear to be based in the UK when they're not, so you don't have the same consumer protections. Often the clothes are AI images so what you receive is very different to what was ordered as well.

I was upset and ordered on impulse, which is obviously my bad. But usually you can try clothes on and send them back for a refund if you don't like them. That's what online clothes shopping usually is. In this case, they make it extremely difficult and expensive.

I got scammed for a jumper through a similar way and when it arrived it was absolute junk - I was distracted as someone close to me had sent me the link for a bday gift and in all honestly I was distracted! . I paid through PayPal and opened a dispute with them and they refunded me almost instantly

Don’t let it get you down!

susiedaisy1912 · Today 17:32

It is drop shipping rather than a scam. I’ve been caught out twice with that

LaliqueSaltGrinder · Today 17:42

I can't believe people are still falling for these Chinese tat merchants presenting themselves as UK businesses.

Seriously - two things. Takes 5 seconds to check.

Google lens - reverse image search
Trustpilot.

A lot of vulnerable people around unfortunately, myself included as I am neuro divergent.

To be fair to OP, it's a numbers game. Yes, most people will check what they are getting in to - but some will be distracted, or tipsy, or what have you; they only have to reach a set amount of folk and enough will bite to make it viable.

OP, does this mean you have to change your bank card seeing that they have your details?

DeftGoldHedgehog · Today 17:51

Did it not have a size guide?

They do but they’re mis-selling the product. It’s all lies.

Not necessarily. I've had some nice garments made in China but Large tends to be size 10! If it's misrepresenting the sizing on the site deliberately then it's a different matter.

I'm going to the bank tomorrow to report it and check the account
