Did HRT help you with brain fog?

That really. GP has prescribed Evorel but been clear that it's unlikely to have much impact on brain fog. Leaflet says it won't have any effect. But friends have said if will... what are people's experiences? I can deal with all the other symptoms

No, but getting my ferritin checked and then getting an iron infusion fixed it for me.

Lovingthelighterevenings · 01/06/2026 22:57

Hasn't helped me..

Asked my GP and was told once you have kids you brain is a lost cause. Great.

JillThePlantKiller · 01/06/2026 23:01

It did for a while, in the beginning, but then the brain fog came back, and after several tweaks, my gp put me on testosterone which has made a big difference for six months. But I can feel it creeping back. I think my brain is just determined to be stupid, no matter what I throw at it.

Blinkingmarvellous · 01/06/2026 23:01

I feel better on it. Definitely a bit sharper, although not back to normal.

Jopo12 · 01/06/2026 23:06

Oh yes, it's helped mine.
I once forgot to put a new patch on, and I only realised once I'd connected my inability to complete a full sentence with the lack of patch!

I also found I was dropping things a lot until I put the new patch on.

romany4 · 01/06/2026 23:07

I only went on HRT for the awful brain fog I had. It's really helped me.

LifeIsGreatForUnicorns · 01/06/2026 23:17

Helped me!

ToffeePennie · 01/06/2026 23:26

I take tibolone, desogesterol, ferritin, iron, vitamin b12 and have a monthly injection of pro-stap. I’m still struggling with brain fog and periods and other stuffs

insomniac1 · 01/06/2026 23:28

Helped me too!!

Cyberjammies · Yesterday 00:18

Yes, especially the testosterone… took 5/6 months though, it’s a slow burn but it was like the clouds had cleared and there was blue sky in my head (if you get me?!) only way I can describe it! I didn’t even realise I had brain fog as I’d felt generally fuzzy, slow and crap for so many years plus daily headaches - but the headaches went too!

Periperinotsospicy · Yesterday 06:44

Mixed bag but worth a shot!

@JillThePlantKiller and @Cyberjammies
How did you get the dr to prescribe testosterone?

OP posts:
Periperinotsospicy · Yesterday 06:45

@Cyberjammies yes that is exactly the reverse of the feeling I have now- that everything is literally like wading through fog.

applecharlotte · Yesterday 06:50

Yes! It's the one symptom it totally sorted out.

Nowthatshuge · Yesterday 07:02

Ooh this is interesting, some days I question if I have dementia or some MH crisis tbh but it just makes sense it’s hormonal
i have the coil and am on 2 pumps of gel which stopped breast pain but the brain stuff is hard, feel like I did have a temporary reprieve when I first started on the gel

purplezigzag · Yesterday 07:04

Not for me. I’m not finding evorel as effective as the gel since having to change over.

BeLimeTiger · Yesterday 07:12

Oestrogen helped a bit. I take creatine monohydrate (just the cheap powder from Amazon) 5mg a day. Makes a huge difference

Periperinotsospicy · Today 07:47

I'm taking Creatin, vitamins, cod liver oil, collagen and now mushrooms (which I've forgotten the name of ironically)
I can't tell if any is making any difference. So I assume it isn't.

It's the worst feeling let down by my brain

OP posts:
Thepeopleversuswork · Today 07:56

It helped me quite a lot. Also helps with mood, anxiety and energy.

I also take magnesium, which helps a lot with sleep issues, and creatine, not sure the latter makes much difference but I have only just started.

Exercise helps a lot. I have also almost stopped drinking. Alcohol really impacts my mental acuity.

How did you get the testosterone?

How did you get the testosterone?

Also curious about testosterone: a friend takes it as swears by it but she gets it privately. I would assume the NHS is unwilling to prescribe?

Cyberjammies · Today 09:26

I have to get it privately, although I think some GP’s will prescribe it, but it’s only if you say you have sexual issues related to menopause? Think that’s the BMS or Nice guidelines? I get Androfemme which is a cream amd slightly easier to dose. Honestly, it makes such a difference, and believe me, I was skeptical and wasn’t really looking for the improvements in my cognitive function either. I think it’s a really slow one to see effects though so many people might give up as it’s not a quick fix.

another thing I noticed after about a year or so of taking it is that my eyebrows were less sparse! I also used to have weird off-balance feeling a lot of the time too, despite being on oestrogen for a few years… that’s pretty much gone too!
