AIBU to think MN overuses far left and far right?

MN throws around far right and far left when what they actually mean is right leaning or left leaning?

Very few people are bang in the center, but even fewer are genuinely far left or far right.

AIBU?

I don’t think it’s unique to mumsnet. Politics has become very divisive in recent years, pushing people further left and right but also really encouraging this rhetoric while doing so.

Fair point, it's wider than MN.

It's entirely appropriate to use the terms far-left and far-right when we are seeing a huge upswell in activity from both. Policing language never goes well.

Yes. Far left and far right both exist right now but there's definitely a tendency for people in many areas to call things far left and far right when they're actually centre left or centre right, or neither at all. Not unique to MN at all.

I believe in telling it like it is.

Indeed, but what I am saying is the complete opposite of that!

People not telling it how it is at all!

Something I was reading this morning said "if you want to get rid of this hard left government, you need to vote Reform".
Hard left? A lot of the Reform rhetoric seems to suggest that anything left of Reform is far left.

I am left of centre, not far left but there seems to be a chasm now between me and the right. And possibly people on the right are seeing the same chasm and think I'm far left.

Why are the lib dems not more popular? They seem to escape the whole far right/left thing.

They do I agree.

This is definitely a thing, I agree with pp that it’s much wider than MN and what’s discussed here just reflects wider society. So many terms now rendered fairly meaningless given their misuse/overuse, see fascism and various isms also. It doesn’t help the people being shouted on behalf of. I think it’s a sign of declining ability to have a reasoned conversation or debate, people resort to hyperbole.
