to ask to borrow my neighbour's Economist?

Just want to know if this is really cheeky. My neighbour downstairs is a nice man, don't know him really well, just the occasional "hi, how you doing, isn't the weather nice?" type convos. He has a wife and a young daughter, they seem quite laid back.

Anyway he has a subscription to the Economist (we have a communal hallway where the post comes) and I was thinking of asking him what he does with them, as if he just bins/recycles them I would love to nab them and read them. There is no way I could afford a sub, and I couldn't even justify it as I don't get to read much with the baby, but would really like to dip into them, even if they are out of date.

So would I BU to ask if he would mind me borrowing them or having his old ones? How could I ask in a way which allows him to say no and not feel embarrassed? And would the offer off homemade muffins be a really wanky exchange? Would you think I was a freeloading loon in I asked you?

just found a flyer for the Economist special subscription deal. 12 issues for £12, save you 74% apparently! Need to set up a direct debit
Order online www.economist.com/insert/uk and enter reference QGM8
Hope this helps if your neighbour gets all possessive of his back issues!

No worries Christiana, I just got all excited! I've already done the 3 month offer before so not sure if they will let me do it again.

Anyway, I will ask him next time I see him. Thanks for all the help

I also never remembered to cancel it when I did it either so I always had loads hanging around!
