AIBU to be shocked by Sky's cancellation fee when moving abroad?

I’ve tried to cancel my sky contract today we pay £117 a month for sky tv and broadband. I have been told we have to pay half the amount of the contract (we have 17 months left). We are moving abroad and paying an £800 cancellation fee is sickening. This is just a rant as it’s in the small print that was sent to us but I didn’t realise it would be so so much.

If youre living abroad why does that matter?

Presume that when they come back they are going to need things that require a good credit history

They don’t stay on there forever you know 😂

besides they be cheeky to upload it to a credit file- they haven’t offered any credit. They should only report late or unpaid bills.

and an unpaid bill to sky isn’t going to cause that many problems to your average person, particularly 2,3,5 years later.

if they’re going to worry about that they’d be better worrying about how shite their credit ratings will be in their new country of residence

And when you pointed out the clause in the T+Cs about no-fee cancellation if they were not able to provide service at the new address what did they say?

They said it doesn’t apply as it’s only relevant to UK addresses not international though I did counter saying it doesn’t mention that anywhere else.
Im confused why they waived the more expensive TV fee and not the broadband one which was cheaper and id found that loophole as it were but I think that’s the best I’m gonna get!
