To want tougher punishments for noisy cars

In this hot weather I have my bedroom windows wide open. Every single night I am woken by noisy cars and motorbikes. Last night I was woken up at 1am, 5:30am and then again at six. The noise is so loud and piercing that even earplugs don’t help. The engines screech when they accelerate, and then the exhausts pop and bang when they slow down. It’s driving me f-ing mad.

WHY do people do this? WHY do they modify their vehicles to make so much noise? And WHY do they then drive around night? Do they get a kick out of upsetting people? Is it spite? Or is it just that they like the attention? I can hear them right now as I type.😡

Above a certain decibel should be an instant MOT failure.

I think it is an advisory right now.
I had a loud (but pretty) aftermarket exhaust on one of my old motorbikes, but I had a baffle in it to reduce the noise to normal levels.

Can I add kids that scream for no reason to that list.

And those that play violins/recorders during summer months when windows are open.

We get a lot of them speeding around at night, cars and bikes with modified exhausts sounding like guns are going off. I have a real issue with loud noises and I absolutely hate it, especially when I'm in bed trying to sleep. I try to tolerate it and think they are just young and ignorant, but recently it's ramped up to new levels and I've found myself secretly hoping they crash and seriously injure themselves. I really hate thinking evil thoughts like that but they are driving me to distraction

All unnecessary noise should be illegal and have the harshest punishments. People should be entitled to live in peace and quiet.

This . I don’t understand why the want of the few trumps the majority needing a quiet peaceful life .

Yes. Our road is horrendous and they beep all the time for no reason

I agree and we have loads of these on our estate and in the local shop car park - bikes and cars and then they race off over a bridge. These aren't bikes making sure cars know they are there. They are just revving and backfiring for fun.

There are laws about dBs of sound and exhausts but the trouble is there are never any police around to hear them.

It is impossible to have windows open and out case it isn't just a night. Any hot weekend or bank Holiday it can be all day long.

I did report one car that was going to and fro and the police must have caught up with him because I haven't seen him since but I also suspect he was dealing.

Can we have tougher punishments for drivers and cyclists who kill?

So often it’s “£200 fine and disqualification for killer driver”, who doesn’t have a licence. So no punishment at all.

We need suspended sentence for every disqualification, and fines of thousands for drink drivers, not merely hundreds.

And we need hanging for prime ministers who lie to the electorate. Boris Johnson, I’m looking at you. I’m sure there’s an archaic law saying that a prime minister who lies to His or Her Majesty has their head chopped off for treason.

I live in a small block of flats with a car park, and there are two idiot tenants with souped up exhausts. The noise they make is horrific and so disturbing, I’m regularly woken up at night by their coming and going and like a PP, that’s with earplugs in!

Thanks @PinkElephants356 , I have happily signed!

The souped up exhausts have been around for ages and as a fad doesn't look like they're going away soon.

It's irritating but understandable when it's a 1.2l fiesta driven someone who's just got their licence. Enraging when it's a 3l Audi with tinted windows driven by someone old enough to know better.

I live off a main road and empathise with the OP.

Ugh. We have one on our street, drives a souped up Mercedes. We can hear him coming from miles away. We have phoned the police but nothing gets done. My teen gets woken by him roaring into the street every night at about 1 am. I have seen him pull out of our street into the main road and he goes so fast that his car fishtails. Maniac.
