I’m so to be such a miserable person, but I feel like I’m the only person home along not enjoying the weather. I am very overweight and have depression as well as other conditions. I’m not sure what I want from the post but just to say I’m thinking of you that are in the similar situations. If you are not, please don’t bother posting, I don’t need it right now. I feel shit enough as it is 😥

I get it OP. Too much emphasis on people having fun and socialising, whilst some of us lead such shrunken lives, doing our best to hide away. It's somehow worse in summer.

JLou08 · 26/05/2026 19:30

I think lots of people are doing the same. I used to really feel I was missing out when I did it. As I've got older I've realised I prefer Autumn and winter anyway, less crowded, can wrap up to stay warm rather than being stuck overheating in the summer, less bugs flying around, pretty colours and the wind and rain can be really exhilarating and wake up the senses when I'm feeling meh, whereas heat can make me feel more exhausted.

This weather is vile. Cannot wait for it to end. YANBU.

Somethingbland · 26/05/2026 20:59

You are not alone OP.

I get very depressed in spells of hot weather. I'm just trying to get by best I can until it breaks.

PicknStick · 26/05/2026 21:05

Is there somewhere with air con that you could go to?

I spent the morning at the gym purely because it was air conditioned. I’d have sat in the cafe area all afternoon if I hadn’t of had to get back for work.

Same here op
Wishing for autumn

Feeling generally bad for not managing to be happy. Why does depression always feel like a personality flaw rather than an illness? I have bipolar disorder but when I'm low, my head still tells me it's my own fault and I ought to be able to talk myself out of it. Especially in good weather.

Totally the same .I frequently feel judged for it to

Yanbu.
High temperatures increase stress.
It's more difficult to think.
Sleep is elusive.

The only positive I can think of is that the washing dries more quickly.

One tip is to get a super thin duvet that you don't even put a cover on and just wash like a blanket.

Even when the weather cools to normal summer temperatures, it'll still dry quickly.

KitKatPitPat · 27/05/2026 10:15

Just fyi a lot of SSRIs affect your internal temperature regulation so you will likely feel much worse than other people do in hot weather.

Prioritise keeping cool and hydrated and remember that it won’t last long.

Nobody in my household is suffering from depression at the moment but we’ve cancelled all social plans and are hiding indoors with fans and all the curtains shut, it’s much too hot for a lot of people- you’re not alone.

Thank you for all your lovely comments and not a judgemental one for a change 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

It's amazing how worse I feel in the heat . yesterday morning it was warm but nice and I got so much done ,today it's boiling again, and that sets my anxiety of and I don't,like being out of the house in the heat .
And everything just feels wrong ..plus I'm on ritalin and I'm sure it's not helping in the heat ..I'm actually wondering if I shouldn't take it when it's extremely hot

BauhausOfEliott · 28/05/2026 13:59

Honestly, loads of people don't like hot weather. You're absolutely not alone.

I don't mind it up to a point but I burn really easily and I sweat buckets and currently I'm also midway through losing weight and don't really like the way I look/feel in summer clothes. I had a very busy weekend while it was 30C+ here and I hated it.

Also: are you taking antidepressants? Because for some people, the most commonly prescribed types of antidepressant can have a side effect of messing with your heat regulation, so you might feel the heat, sweat and tire more easily because of that. I take Sertraline and I feel the heat a lot more on that.

RhosynCymru · 28/05/2026 14:36

I get severe depression in summer- diagnosed reverse SAD, as well as feeling physically ill with headaches and nausea and poor sleep. Body image issues don’t help either, so you have my sympathy.
