AIBU to resign from a stressful job with nothing lined up?

Absolutely hate my job with a passion. Only been in it 9 months and global finance role - flat structure managing a very new very junior team, which is expanding rapidly, who need a lot of support whilst I’m expected to drive strategy, process change and policy. Am debating handing in my notice this week but salary is very good (155k) and nervous at the prospect of doing it but think it’s having such an effect on my mental health and think about work all the team an can feel myself getting angry and snappy with my kids. Am I crazy to just hand in my notice with nothing lined up? If it makes any difference I can se my manager who is based in a different country is on the verge of burnout.

No. Life is really too short to be in an unhappy job.

Whats the point in earning £155k if youre always stressed miserable and have no time to enjoy it? Its not worth it.

Can you afford to just leave? Will you be ok until you find another job?
If so do it tomorrow
If not I would start looking and applying now so you can quit.

Nope. I did it but I’d been there over 2 years and DH earns the bills money. I got a temping job a couple of weeks later then a perm role and also a job offer from the temp role. I was only on 22k then though.

I used to cry on the train into work every day until my DH said just give your notice in!! Worked a 2 month notice, and on my very last day, I was offered a job. But I was happy to just go and stack shelves if I didn’t find something, just to get away from that place. But I had my DH to cover my outgoings. If you left the job and didn’t find something for a while, could you cope financially?

If you can afford it then do it. I don’t know your industry but the job market is tough right now.

£155k isn’t worth the stress. £200-300k jobs maybe.

Thanks everyone! This has helped give me a boost. I think we’d be fine for a few months at least and have some savings put aside. I’m at the point where I would just love a data entry job (although I know they don’t even exist anymore)

I’d rather be stressed earning £155k than £25k like I am in my job… you have a lot more to lose by quitting.
