Birthday cake for two year old

I’m the family baker, I love it and love making cakes so it’s not a problem.

I’ve been asked to make a birthday cake for the baby of the family for this weekend. It’s meant to be a nice day and we’re having a BBQ. The problem is I just don’t know what to do? There will be more adults than children there who want the cake, so I’d like to try and balance it between a children’s cake and one adults can enjoy too.

She has asked for chocolate cake along with her sibling (well, I asked her if she wanted chocolate or vanilla and it sounded like she said chocolate 😂) but some of the adults going don’t like chocolate.

What do I make?! AIBU to want the adults to enjoy it too and I should just make it a kid’s cake?!

Make a chocolate cake for the KID - it’s their birthday.

if you think others won’t like it and are feeling particularly generous - make some fairy cakes to go alongside.

In all honestly - you are totally overthinking this.

It’s Simple - it’s the kids birthday - the cake is for them. They get what they want . Candles, chocolate - the works .

people can chose to eat it or not.

you’ll never please everyone and it’s pretty pointless trying to.

Some of these berry recipes look and sound lovely, but I would check with the parent what foods the child actually likes, at that age. A sponge cake with chocolate icing / buttercream + buttons / smarties might be all she needs anyway. Chocolate sponge can be very rich.

OMG @imnotgoinghomeyet I've just made the BEST cake for my husbands birthday (granted, a bit older than 2!) and would recommend it. It's a honey cake, you could tart it up with some sugar bees or Winnie the Pooh if you like.

This honey cake recipe combined with the topping and filling for this Bee Sting cake (although I added the almond topping after the cake was baked). It was divine. The filling I added a lot more cream than was mentioned so it was very filling and stabbed the cakes with a skewer so the syrup soaked in. It was lush. I'm going to make a 3 tier one for a party on Saturday, where like you, we've got a little birthday and lots of grown ups.

I do love chocolate cake but this felt a bit more fancy and not as rich for a hot summer day.

Just make a chocolate cake. It's not a children's thing, plenty of adults like chocolate cake. Next time, don't offer a choice if you're unhappy with them taking one of the options. The cake should always be what the person who's birthday it is likes.

Use a Betty Crocker mix as their chocolate cake is never dry, it’s soft and delicious and if anyone asks you for the recipe tell them it’s a family secret!

Personally I’d make one of those old school hedgehog cakes as the birthday child will love it and it will be super nostalgic for the adults.

A Scottie dog cake? You
make two cakes and the second one is cut up for the head , legs and tail. The body could be chocolate but not the rest?

My message is still under approval! It's an innocent and delicious chocolate cake recipe, honest!

Just in case it's a code 🕵‍♀️

Okay, I’ve come up with a plan.

a chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream on the outside. The buttercream will be a pink to white gradient and then loads of chocolates (maltesers, Lindt balls, magic stars etc.) on top, shaken in pink edible glitter. It sticks to the chocolate and looks amazing

They'll love it

OP, you say, “I just don’t know how to design it.”. Why do ‘t you hire a number 2 tin? Then the cake rather sorts itself out, especially if you are going to put chocolates and edible glitter on it.
