AIBU to hope people next week don’t say summer is already over? Forecast rain and some days 18c

From Saturday onwards its forecast to be 18-22c and rain.

I do not want people on MN or other SM moaning that summer is over or you had your summer.

Early 30sC is too much for most of us. I was struggling with breathing being asthmatic.

Summer runs to Aug 31st for meteorologists and Sept 20th for others

Agree- it's still spring and this is too hot for spring. I love a 20 degree day!

MidnightPatrol · 26/05/2026 07:08

In my mind a normal pleasant summers day in the UK starts at about 20 degrees.

35 is not really the norm…!

Somethingbland · 26/05/2026 07:17

Where I live it was not as hot as 30° yesterday. Probably more like 21°. It was plenty hot enough for me and honestly I would not have been happy at all with the temperatures parts of the UK were experiencing.

Even as it was I had to spend a lot of time yesterday evening watering the garden . And as the first rain isn't forcast, as you say, until Saturday, I"ll need to do that again probably a couple of times . So personally I will be really happy for rain when it comes.

Even apart from the issues with the garden I enjoy rainy days after a few warm sunny ones.

We need rain. You are right OP it's silly to say it signifies summer is over.

PumpkinPie2016 · 26/05/2026 07:46

You are right that summer won't be over - we will get more good weather through June/July/August.
I like the nice weather but we do need rain as well or everything ends up parched and my water well gets too low which is a problem!

Blundl · 26/05/2026 07:52

I will be happy for the rain because of having to water the garden every other night, I do enjoy the 30 degrees though.

DappledThings · 26/05/2026 07:55

It's just a joke though. Nobody saying "summer's over" in June because of a bit of rain actually means it. Making daft comments about the weather is a national pasttime.

Zanatdy · 26/05/2026 08:29

The British love talking about the weather - so that is exactly what people will say. Will be plenty more nice days.

ZenNudist · 26/05/2026 08:41

30+ is too hot for me. Just flown to the Netherlands for the week where its a lovely 20C. Happy.

Natsku · 26/05/2026 08:45

I'm coming to the UK next week. I'll be very happy if its not 30 odd degrees! 20-22 would be perfect.

ImogenBrocklehurst · 26/05/2026 08:51

You’re definitely being unreasonable to demand what you “do not want” on a public forum. I’ll moan as much as I like about the weather, thanks.

Sadcafe · 26/05/2026 09:16

It’s the UK, the one thing that’s totally predictable is that the weather is totally unpredictable and that people will complain it’s too cold and too hot depending, Though it’s fair to say,30 plus degrees is definitely hotter than we are generally used to, just read an interesting article about why it feels so hot in the UK with those temperatures, apparently a lot to do with it being more humid therefore making it harder to sweat and also our homes being built and insulated for cold weather

whirlyhead · 26/05/2026 09:21

It's late 30s where I am! It's fine, you acclimatise. Just don't go out in the middle of the day and retreat beneath a ceiling fan.

FirstdatesFred · 26/05/2026 09:25

This very ironic, why is them moaning summer is over worse than you moaning it’s too hot 😆
I really like living somewhere with a wide variety of weather.

Fluffybuns88 · 26/05/2026 09:26

It was 33c here yesterday, I'm 8m pregnant, mildly allergic to sunlight and can't regulate my body temperature at the best of times. I feel so so ill.

I hope the summer IS over.

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/05/2026 09:30

There is an old saying that the British summer consists of three hot days and a thunderstorm. In reality we do talk about the weather a lot because we have a maritime climate and it's constantly changing. Japanese visitors call Britain the land of four seasons in one day and come prepared.

weareallcats · 26/05/2026 09:49

I love dark and moody, rainy weather, so this weekend has not been my favourite. I understand other people like it though and try not to moan too much (although I have had to start saying ‘IT’S LOVELY’ to my dh every time he moans about the cold/rain, as he doesn’t show me the same courtesy). I like looking at the garden and sitting outside once the sun has gone away. I definitely prefer a summer temperature in the teens - so it will still be ‘summer' for me next week.

LadyDanburysHat · 26/05/2026 09:52

I'm in Scotland and it is forecast 12c in a week's time. So I will quite rightly moan about it.

Shatteredallthetimelately · 26/05/2026 11:46

My lawn says you are definitely not being unreasonable, it's hoping it doesn't start that shredded wheat look before then.

CoffeeCantata · 26/05/2026 12:12

I'm with you, OP.

I like a lovely summer day - of the old-fashioned, mid-20 degree sort.

I find these high temperatures sinister. India is currently in 45 degrees - surely humans will cease to be able to function at those temperatures and things will break down.

Crops need water or we'll starve. Super-high temperatures are a worry. Let's hope they only come in short bursts.

Peterdottir · 26/05/2026 12:56

I mean however many more hot and sunny days we get between now and the end of August/20th September you can guarantee that someone will say 'we haven't had a summer' 🙄
