Doing stuff in the hot weather

I had loads of plans for this weekend but we haven’t done any of them. We’ve been to the park, the shops etc but other than that the kids have been in the garden. We’ve got a paddling pool, trampoline, play house. Tomorrow there is a fun day on at our local NT type place and I had planned all week to take dc, there’s loads going on but I know it will be absolutely packed and temperatures here are set to be over 30 degrees. What do you prefer doing in the hot weather? Just chilling at home or going out and enjoying the bank holiday activities?

We had a busy day yesterday and then a pretty relaxing one at home today (dh and j went out very early to drive to the beach for a swim and left to get home early). We had breakfast in the garden with our teen at about 11 (brunch?!) and then had a nice day doing not much. I’m sure there were tonnes of families out and about doing fun things but honestly we didn’t fancy being anywhere really overcrowded and overpriced when we could be comfortable and happy at home in the garden. Fortunately we have a garden though, if we didn’t I’d have been out lying in a park or somewhere along with the masses to make the most of the sun, I’m a sun worshipper!

I’ve walked my dog, early and late in the shaded woods, done a bit of shopping, watered the garden and that’s pretty much it. I just want to stay cool.

This is kind of how I feel. I was looking forward to the fun day tomorrow but now it’s set to reach 34 and it will be packed with people I’m just wondering if it’ll be nicer to be at home in our own garden. But then I’ll probably get FOMO and feel bad that we’ve not done a lot all weekend. Gah!

Ah we’re having a bbq tomorrow, both dds will be here with their partners and my mum and stepdad and sister will be joining us.
there are a few things going on locally that we could have gone to instead but when we saw the weather we thought fuck that, will be rammed and we would all prefer to be home - maybe we are just homey and unsociable 😂
i don’t think it’s true we are unsociable tbh, we do lots of other stuff but when it’s lovely and warm I want to make the most of our garden we spend time and money looking after.

Home.
Everything is to hand, no sweat.

greenalf · Yesterday 23:44

We like to get out and about and the weather doesn't stop that. Usually we've made bookings in advance so I would never waste that money and stay home. We've booked train tickets to go to the seaside tomorrow, so we shall go!

We hadn’t planned anything as our DC are sitting GCSEs / A levels. I’d planned to plant some stuff in the garden and do my patio containers while I had time this weekend but I haven’t because it’s too hot and they’ll die when I go back to work on Tuesday and forget to water them.

I had loads of jobs planned and it’s been so hot that I’ve been doing everything much slower than usual. So I’m frustrated with that as I have very little time otherwise.

I did go and have tea in my parents garden earlier; that was nice.

I wouldn’t be going anywhere like the beach or bank holiday days out because everything in the SE is too crowded and traffic clogged.

Jacobolordy · Yesterday 23:59

Agree with you. No shade at the beach, crowds everywhere, hard to park etc.

Much rather stay at home in the garden if it was just me. Do feel the dc need some things to keep them occupied though, so feel we have to go out sometimes!

Besidemyselfwithworry · Yesterday 23:59

We’re going to be at home tomorrow away from the bank holiday traffic and we’ll be in the garden and I’ve got some stuff for a bbq - if it gets too hot inside with the fans on! I don’t want to be stuck in the car in traffic going to the coast or going to over crowded places!

AluckyEllie · Yesterday 23:59

I feel similar- guilty that we haven’t done much but I think the kids have had a fab time eating ice lollies, in and out of the paddling pool and cooling off indoors watching cartoons.

I am taking them to the beach Tuesday but my mum lives a 5 minute walk away which is the absolute win when you’ve had enough of other people 😂and no searching for car parking!

SaltShark · Today 00:08

Ive been in all day with the AC on and curtins closed.
I did go for a walk about an hour ago that was nice.
Tomorrow im doing the same.

I cannae do anything in the heat. I've been in bed all day today (I'm ill), with the fan on, curtains closed. Curtains now open with windows open now that it has cooled down.

Plan for tomorrow, going to drag myself to the air-conditioned gym, then back home in front of the fan with cool drinks for the rest of the day!

I have a long to do list but I'm seriously good for nothin in the heat, at least today I had being ill as an excuse...

Just home from two days in London seeing a lot of art while DH and DS went to a match and did football ish things. It was very hot, yes, but I kind of enjoy London in heatwaves. It makes me nostalgic for summers when we used to live there.

Toomanyuglyplasticbins · Today 03:32

I don't get why people feel that they have to be out & about doing something, just because it's a sunny bank holiday weekend; and why feel guilty & the need to justify staying at home?
What is wrong with just enjoying the simple pleasures of your home & garden? You've paid enough to buy your house, so just enjoy it!
I get the need to go out & do something if you haven't got a garden or a park close by though.
Everywhere will be rammed, uncomfortably hot & expensive anyway. Kids don't need an expensive, crowded day out in this heat. Just enjoy being together in your home.
