Was an official diagnosis helpful, and how did you begin the process?

Did it help you getting a diagnosis officially even though you know you had it? How did it help you? I’m in the stage where I think I should get officially diagnosed but have no idea where to start and where to go,

Do you mean autism or ADHD?

Nopenott0day · 23/05/2026 19:03

For what?

Oliveoy · 23/05/2026 19:03

Of what?

PicaK · 23/05/2026 19:09

Yes. Because I'm autistic and pedantic and wouldn't really allow myself to believe I was until I had it in writing. And then I started to heal and to really take on board how to protect myself and what to forgive myself for.

Diagnosis of what? I’m diagnosed with ASD and ADHD which I have found helpful.

BookArt55 · 23/05/2026 20:24

Yes to whether you mean a physical symptom or something adhd, mental health etc. You learn to understand yourself, to seek support in communities such as this one with people who understand abd can offer support, knowledge, advice. You give yourself more grace on the hard days.

I've got adhd diagnosed last year, several health issues and depression and anxiety.

Have you looked at example screening tests online? That will give you a rough idea if you could meet the criteria for assessment. Although not everyone who meets the screening criteria will get diagnosed.

I did the Aspie quiz and scored highly on probability for autism before going for an official diagnosis. It hasn't helped changed any behaviours with regard to family and friends, but it was a relief to come out with an AUDHD diagnosis. I have found some resources and started counselling almost straight away. There isn't a whole lot of official help available for adults here, services are completely stretched.
