Am I alone in feeling off-beam about phone culture in museums/galleries/nice scenic areas?

These past few years I've noticed that anywhere that's pretty like nice viewpoints in Venice, Capri, Paris, even a little pool I went to in Crete fgs, plus major works at art galleries, people seem to be unofficially queuing to take photos and even if you're not that arsed about taking photos there's an unspoken social consensus that you either queue or fuck off. You can't just walk about and do your shit. You have to queue, take a photo and leave.

I feel really constricted by this but everyone seems to go along with it. Is this just how the world is going to be now - a succession of queuepoints? And for what purpose? So that people can share their data with Big tech? That's what the world is now?

I'm uncomfortable with this phenomenon of people altering the real world behaviour of those around them for the sake of the digital world, not least because the people who control the digital world seem to hate actual real life, so god knows we shouldn't be taking any modelling from them. Does anyone else feel the same?

It’s not great is it. Tbf I’ve not found it as intense as you describe, except in art exhibitions; the worst was the Vermeer in Amsterdam where you had to queue behind a forest of phones in order to actually see the paintings. Mostly if it’s bad I’ve just gone somewhere else - there’s usually something else to look at that people are ignoring a few feet away. We’ll be in Venice later in the year and it’s likely to be bad I guess.

Yy the art works are the worst. Starry Night at the musee dorsay was fucking unbearable to the extent that I walked out. I realised there was no way I could get anything out of being in that room so cut my losses.

I honestly don't mind lots of people looking at one thing - that's fine and how it's always been. But add in phones, and it becomes unbearably overregulated, you're all only allowed a set amount of time to stand on a place on earth looking at art and you must not obstruct an internet linked phone while doing so. Honestly, fuck that shit.

Venice isn't so bad in general because there are so many little streets but even there the last couple of times I have gone I've encountered people queuing at random spots for photos with the obvious message that you either do likewise or fuck off. You can't just walk freely.
