AIBU to think that we need an independent democratic process for standing candidates and MPs down for evidenced sleazy behaviour?

To wonder ...whether there ought to be a baseline of behaviour for all parties which would prevent one party or an independent from standing a candidate who was so overtly sleazy as the Reform candidate for Makerton. There can't be any Reform excess he hasn't embodied. The claim to represent the working class - who exactly behaves like this online? It's not how we identify ourselves. No one I know thinks that's how they are working class. Many of the working class people I know are highly responsible.

Not just sleazy but incompetent as well, just seen a reform councilor who doesn’t have a clue what her job is asking what an amendment is….

Reform voters like racism and misogyny, don't they? Isn't that the whole point of the party?

Well if that were the case across the board I guess you'd not hear such a lot of talk about him being ' decent'. However it's clear that's not decent.
It's an interesting dissonance.

This exists. If an MP is sent to prison, suspended from Parliament (which can happen for all sorts of sleaziness) or fiddles their expenses, there is a ‘recall petition’. If enough constituents sign it there is a by election.

It’s been in place for a few years, and I can think of 3 MPs who have lost their seats this way.

It doesn’t cover incompetence. But I suppose that’s the point of democracy…..

Presumably if the public care enough about sleaze then they just won't vote for the Reform candidate in Markerfield.

Well It's a lot of trouble to put people to get a candidate out of their faces. It pre supposes people have the time and energy which isn't the case. We are wide open for unsuitable people to walk into parliament. Whereas if a person acted like that in a workplace they'd be dealt with by someone whose job it was. It just seems like it should be someone's - or a comittees- job. Candidacy should be a type of probation with vetting right the way through. When one is a fully fledged MP the community is your workplace. Appropriate behaviour in the community should be a minimum requirement.
A DBs should also be in it. So much public investment.
