To think saving while working is more about discipline than privilege?

I feel like saving is often framed as a privilege, but I do think a lot of it also comes down to habits and discipline where possible.

I understand that not everyone has the capacity to save, but for those who do, it seems like consistency and choices play a big role.

Definitely an element of discipline. When I first started work and lived at home, I saved two thirds of my take home pay and put it in my savings account at the beginning of the month. However, I was living at home and after paying my parents there were no unexpected expenses so it was easy to save money.

Obviously some people can’t afford to save, due to not having enough means.

However, I agree that it’s a discipline to save, and involves an element of budgeting.

We don’t make enough money to “save” anything. Every month our bills just cost my husbands wages and my wages (minuscule) are spent on food and everything else needed - like school shoes, school trips, new uniform pieces, my autistic son’s very specific pens. If I have any money leftover, it’s put into our credit card payment - where we pay for our holidays.
