AIBU to think Wes Streeting sounds more convincing than Andy Burnham?

First of all, I am not even a Labour voter (live in a LD Constituency and tend to vote LD). However.. Wes Streeting. Never particularly stood out to me before, but how refreshing it is to hear someone state the facts and call Brexit out for the shambles it is, in a way Starmer never would because he was always reticent to alienate Reform in the former Red Wall. This man speaks with energy and vision.

In contrast, Andy Burnhsm can't even bring himself to state that he wants to be PM! The man is just talking about bus passers and local issues. What's going on there??? It's so obvious he is pro-EU integration, but he won't say it.

I'm tired of pro-EU politicians who are constantly pandering to Reform voters. Just say it as it is ffs! The Reform lot are probably a lost cause, let's be honest - so instead politicisns need to stop foot shuffling à la Starmer, and just take a stand. Appeal to moderate common sense people in the middle ground who have no time for all the populist clap-trap and over-simplification. Go Wes! Never noticed you before..,

Alright Wes.

Jokes aside, they are all useless and I have no faith that any of them will effect positive change.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 20/05/2026 18:09

Wes Streeting supports NHS privatisation.

Yabvu.

I've lost any admiration I had for Wes Streeting after he brought up the Brexit issue. I can't decide if he was shit stirring against Andy Burnham or is a complete idiot. The last thing we need is such a divisive issue brought to the fore - it splits opinion between parties, voters, and also (more importantly at the moment) within parties. People have such strong views on Brexit that there will be Labour voters reluctant to vote for Burnham now, if they believe he wants to rejoin the EU. Plus it will flame the issue of freedom of movement within the EU will flame immigration outrage. Streeting might as well have handed the by-election to Reform on a plate.

Hopingforsoon · 20/05/2026 18:16

But everyone knows Brexit is a disaster. Reform voters are generally worse off for it. Immigration has gone up since 'taking back control.'

Why tiptoe around Reform voters any longer? If they can't see it now, they never will. It's a lost cause. Why let them silence critical debate around the need for greater EU integration - for security, immigration and economic purposes.

Yes, I thought Wes Streeting’s resignation letter was very impressive. Concise, articulate, obviously intelligent and saying IMO extremely sensible things.

HappiestSleeping · 20/05/2026 18:21

He is probably the most articulate of any of them currently, and has made some good progress with his role. He does have something weasel like about him though. And his friendship with Mandelson doesn't stand him in especially good stead.

MightyFlow · 20/05/2026 20:01

But everyone knows Brexit is a disaster

Not everyone agrees with that. And not all pro-Brexit supporters are Reform voters.

LlynTegid · 20/05/2026 20:02

Peter Mandelson's associate, that is enough for me not to want him as Prime Minister.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 20/05/2026 20:05

No. West Streeting remained beat friend with Mandleson after it was public knowledge he stayed in Epstiens home whilst he was in prison for being a sex trafficking peadophile.

So no.
