Do you acknowledge a birthday card ?

If someone sends you a birthday card, do you acknowledge that you’ve received it ?

I sent a birthday card to my friend’s little girl & messaged my friend on the day but she hasn’t mentioned anything about the card…. I always say thank you when someone sends me one to acknowledge the gesture & so they know it arrived !

Just wondering what the general consensus about this is ?!

YABU - not necessary to say thank you for a card

YANBU - it’s polite to say thank you you

Yes, I always say thank you when someone sends a card.

Not unless it has money or a gift in.

I say thank you to certain family members who have previously chased up to see if their card has arrived, or if the card has cash in it. Otherwise I don't bother for a card and wouldn't expect anyone to acknowledge when I send cards (which is a good job as I don't think anyone has, ever). If I'd put money or a voucher in then yes, would like that acknowledging that it arrived safely.

It would never occur to me to acknowledge a card.

The girl probably had a hundred cards. A lot would have come with gifts or money. Those with gifts or money should have a thank you, but not just a card.
