Do you like it when someone says “woman to woman” to you? Do you ever say it yourself?

I’ve noticed some women sometimes preface things with “woman to woman” - usually before giving advice, criticism or sharing something personal. Just wondered how others experience this. Some people seem to find it supportive or bonding, while others find it patronising or loaded, depending on context.

Do you like it when it’s said to you?
Do you ever say it to others, and if so, what do you mean by it?

I’ve never given it a second thought. The context behind the conversation would be the thing you might feel supported or patronised by. I’ve never said it to myself.

It doesn't make much sense to me in the modern world, maybe mother to mother still makes sense in the context where something is discussed which involves our children, but woman to woman is like saying blue eyes to blue eyes, how is our gender relevant

Bedheadbeachbum · 20/05/2026 13:13

No one has ever said this to me and I've never said it to anyone.
I'd quite like it if they did, it would signal some kind of juicy gossip going on.

Always makes me think of the Beverly Craven song, plus it was a series of compilation CDs of female artists - well chosen actually, think I had the whole set.

I would cringe myself inside out, but I do generally have a low cringe threshold!

AnneLovesGilbert · 20/05/2026 13:14

I’ve never said it or had it said to me. It’s a bit “speaking as a mother..,” which women sometimes say to imply their opinion is of extra value.

It makes me think immediately of Miss Trunchball so I’d probably laugh!

Doingtheboxerbeat · 20/05/2026 13:18

It's the same vibe as between you and me - figure of speech which I have never used before but definitely won't use now 😬.

Endofyear · 20/05/2026 13:20

I don't think anyone has ever said this to me!

FeliciaFancybottom · 20/05/2026 13:21

It's a bit naff, it's kind of assuming that all women share the same experiences and opinions. I don't think anyone has ever said it to me and I've certainly never said it to another woman.
It also makes me think of that dreadful 70s song!

MyDuvetDay · 20/05/2026 13:30

no one has every used this expression on me. If they did, I would probably assume they were trying to be funny. It’s the sort of thing my gay male friend would say to me with a faux serious expression

Dweetfidilove · 20/05/2026 14:08

Don't use the phrase, but not bothered by it either. Why would I be?
