I’m currently on maternity leave, with a velcro baby who needs to be held a lot, only contact naps, starts yelling or crying if he can’t see me for more than 5 mins, so the days can be pretty tough. DH works 5 days a week, 9-5ish, and is in the office 2 days a week, and WFH the other 3. He has decided he wants to clear some space in the garden (remove some large shrubs, take out the water feature, change layout) so that we can eventually put a playset in for our children. While I may not have done it now while I’m on maternity leave and counting the pennies, it makes sense longer term. He’s getting our regular gardener to do a lot of the work, which is also fine as his rate is reasonable. Gardener come on the days DH is home so he deals with him. However, what is really irking me is that most of these visits entail DH standing outside in the garden ‘supervising the work’ for in excess of an hour each time he visits, in the middle of his working day, which at the moment is once a week, sometimes twice. Meanwhile, I’m looking after the baby, holding the baby while he sleeps, or trying to do things around the house one handed, or eat one handed with the baby on my hip. If DH has time in his working day to spend over an hour in the garden ‘supervising the gardener’, surely some of that time could be spent (10-15 mins?!) giving me a quick break from the baby so I can eat in peace/or do things round the house quickly with both hands?!
