AIBU to think my sister trying on my daughter’s costume was odd?

My sister popped in tonight and started going through my daughter’s costumes she has for a show that were piled up (I didn’t want her to but she just started opening up the packages). I popped out of the room and when I came back in she was wearing the coat. It’s aged 9-10 and my sister is much older than me, a size 14 ish and 1.74m tall. It looked ridiculous as clearly didn’t fit. I told her to take it off as I didn’t want it ripping. She also knows I struggled to find this particular coat that is needed so if it was ripped then I wouldn’t be able to get another. I have found this behaviour extremely odd - AIBU? Who the hell puts on a child’s coat as an adult?

She’s a rude fucker opening up the packaging!
Has she got form for stuff like this?

She’s nosey and will look through stuff but never tried on my daughter’s stuff before. Daughter found it odd and seems upset by it.

It was curiousity. Is she a bit immature? It's not that weird just a bit sad really

ThisCandidMintGoose · 18/05/2026 22:45

was she drunk?

It's a very bizarre behaviour.

My sister is 61 but you’re right, perhaps just a bit sad.

Probably developmentally still the age your daughter is

That doesn't sound like a grown up 61 year old. I'm on the reality TV thread too...is she trying to be "wacky" and "oh what am I like" recapture of youth... I've met several women in their mid/late thirties who suddenly start hanging round with 16 year olds because they are scared of getting old

"Leave my daughter's stuff alone. You're bigger than her and it won't fit you."

You can't leave her alone in your daughter's room anymore. Take that package out of her hand before she opens it. She's marking your daughter's stuff by putting it on before her and ew.

If she was a similar size, it's reasonable to ask. Not help yourself. If you're an adult, asking to try on a young girl's outfit that you should KNOW won't fit is very strange. Does she need some kind of help?

What a strange sad person.
