To think joint taxation can be unfair to women?

It seems to me that when couples are taxed jointly rather than individually, it can create imbalances - particularly where one partner earns less or has a different income pattern.
In some cases it feels like this could disadvantage women more, given existing income gaps and career breaks.

That's why we don't have joint taxation?

There are also benefits such as being able to use each other’s nil band rates and so on. It all evens out.

When we did have joint taxation, it also meant your husband had full access to your tax return and could sign it off, whilst wife did not. Source: was married to a chartered accountant at the time, who proved less than than honest.

Child benefit is based on household income so we sort of do! This should never have been changed! It was always paid to the wife to make sure there was always money for the children, protect from financial abuse etc.
