Whey Protein in every Recipe

Aibu to not fancy this? I often look at recipes which pop up on Facebook and almost all of the sweet ones have protein powder or whey protein in them. They then boast that each mouthful contains 500g protein - well of course it does!!
I wouldn’t know what to buy anyway but would you include it in your recipes? Am I missing something?

The problem is the algorithm, if you have clicked on a couple of those then FB has decided that is the kind of recipe you like. It's annoying when you get into that kind of cycle as it's hard to see the things you really do like.

If you click on the three dots there should be the option to say you aren't interested in that content.

Cookingandfoldingthings · 18/05/2026 14:39

Thankfully my algorithms haven’t come across this addition to recipes (hoping that replying here isn’t…) but I absolutely don’t think you are being unreasonable in wanting to avoid It.

That's horrible. I don't understand people's obsession with this highly processed upf protein powder. It must be really bad for you.

What's wrong with just eating foods naturally high in protein?

Puddings should be full of carbs, sugar and fat!

EveryKneeShallBow · 18/05/2026 14:44

It’s even worse trying to buy for someone dairy free. They put it in the most unlikely products.

Ablondiebutagoody · 18/05/2026 14:47

I have never seen a single recipe with added whey protein. Stop clicking on them. I'm generally fed Anthony Bourdain or an old Frenchman cooking in his kitchen.

Runningswanker · 18/05/2026 14:48

Whey protein is pretty innocuous in terms of the ingredients. I don't like it in any recipes though, it adds a horrible texture in my opinion! As a smoothie it's fine, if extra protein is what you want.

BeardySchnauzer · 18/05/2026 14:50

Yes I’ve noticed this. Troy g to find high protein vegetarian recipes and it’s hard to find one without protein powder!

Florence4170 · 18/05/2026 14:55

You don’t see the ingredients until you do click! I think I had better lay off clicking at all for a while. I’m glad I’m not missing anything by not adding a tablespoon to everything I make!! 🤢

I've never seen whey powder in any recipe, anywhere, other than very occasional ones that are specifically aimed at people on keto / bodybuilding diets that are obsessed with protein. This is likely an algorithm thing.

Just don't use Facebook as a source of recipes. There are a zillion other places to get recipes from and 99% of them aren't going to be putting whey powder in anything.

YABU

It's only in extreme cases, when people have very strict macro and try to reach their protein/carbs/ fat levels while keeping the calories very low and still have room for veg.

It's also much cheaper than buying protein-rich food, sadly.

I have fairly strict macro at the moment, because I don't eat enough and women need carbs and fat! and I don't even see any of these recipes, my social media are full of ridiculous London doughnut/ icecream/ enormous cakes for my kids😂
