To “hot up”’my tea next day?

On work days I make two “mug flasks” of with one herbal tea teabag, so I have hot drinks to get me through the morning without interruption. No milk because herbal tea.

Yesterday afternoon I made a flask of tea to have in the garden but was so engrossed in attacking the ivy that I forgot to take the bag out or drink it.

AIBU to split the cold tea between two flasks and top up with boiling water for today? I am wondering if this is slightly gross, but seems silly to pour it down the sink only to make a fresh brew.

Try it and see if it works. If not then go back to normal? 🤔

DappledThings · 18/05/2026 07:51

Neither reusing it or throwing it away would be unreasonable. Both entirely unremarkable actions.

ponygirlcurtis · 18/05/2026 07:56

I say reuse. Why not?
(I microwave cold tea and have been known to put a cold cup of tea in the fridge and microwave it the next day.)

CurlewKate · 18/05/2026 07:59

Can’t see the issue. Am I missing something?

Changingplace · 18/05/2026 08:00

I’d just make a fresh one, because it’s only tea.

NotEnoughRoom · 18/05/2026 08:05

if you’ve left the bag in, it might be incredibly bitter - but otherwise, yes, I’d reheat a herbal tea (no milk) from the previous day.

InterestedDad37 · 18/05/2026 08:05

No problem. I often re-heat tea. Or I just drink it cold. I never make it cold (would feel odd - but then 'iced tea' is quite a big thing) but am happy to drink it when it's cooled down.

MorrisonsPlatter · 18/05/2026 08:16

It's not tea for a start.

MissCooCooMcgoo · 18/05/2026 08:18

Are you that hard up?

MaryTheMagical · 18/05/2026 08:27

@CurlewKate I don’t know! That’s why I asked the question. I wouldn’t reheat certain foods which are a bit grim once heated up (I was 42 before I ate reheated pizza!) and I thought tea may be on the same list.

It's not tea for a start.

That is an erudite point. Would it make a difference if it was regular tea as opposed to an herbal infusion?

Me too.

You monster.

ElBandito · 18/05/2026 08:31

Two concerns re 50:50 cold (lukewarm?) tea and boiling water:
would it taste strong enough or 'right'
would it actually be hot enough.

Make it, give it a quick try... and then tip it away.

MaryTheMagical · 18/05/2026 08:32

@MissCooCooMcgoo No, but these are expensive “posh” teabags and it feels like such a waste to pour it away.

Ok, I have made the hot tea. It’s on the weak side but not bad! Starting work now, with birds singing my outside my window, sunshine and tea - all is well.

Black tea heated up is horrible as it’s ‘stewed’ .
Im very much a ‘use everything/no waste/eat leftovers’ sort of person but even I would hve thrown it out and made fresh. Herbal tea -like all brewed drinks - is best drank hot & fresh.
Edited to say I know this was a herbal tea bag - the black tea heated up was in reply to someone who said they heated up a cup from the day before 🤮

ThreeStripeQueen · 18/05/2026 10:33

Considering herbal tea tastes like hot water in an unwashed cup I can’t see it being a problem.

Are you that hard up?

Nothing to do with being hard up, why be wasteful?

In any case, you can make cold versions of these teas and keep them in the fridge for a few days so its similar to that.
