AIBU to ignore eBay messages asking for jacket measurements?

Selling some clothes on eBay, one item is a cheap denim jacket. Currently selling for less than £5 so with postage it is less than £10. The size label is 16/18 and I’ve listed it as a 16.

I keep getting messages asking for measurements. Measuring a denim jacket is a pain, if I measure and get it slightly wrong they will have grounds to complain to eBay.

It is a cheap jacket, honestly wouldn’t have bothered but I had a few other things I wanted to sell. I should have just sent them to the charity shop!

Am I being unreasonable to ignore the message?

Add photos of a tape measure laid across the bust, waist etc or describe where you measured and write approx or both

SnappyQuoter · 17/05/2026 14:49

It’s probably taken you longer to start this mumsnet thread. Why are you asking?
Do whatever you want. This is non event about a total non issue.

I've asked for measurements before because 2nd hand clothes might have shrunk/not be true to size.

As someone else said, just lay a tape measure next to it and take some pics.

OR don't bother. You don't seem that fussed to actually sell it!

Datgal · 17/05/2026 14:52

Piss funny. Do you want to sell it or not? 😆

I always think I do and then people annoy me and I remember why I don’t usually bother!

I always ignore those types of messages on Vinted - it's not worth my time.

Maybe if you spent 10sec when listing it to show a measurement, then you wouldn't get people 'annoying' you! 🤷‍♀️

Same... I'm absolutely not taking any risk by posting measurements. I might send them a picture of the tag and where I bought it if they want to look themselves if it's a pricier item but if it's under £20 they can go fly. It's x brand and y size... buy if you want or don't. It isn't worth my time measuring this £3 top.

Badbadbunny · 17/05/2026 15:57

Do you want to sell it or not? Up to you!

It is going to sell to someone else 🤷‍♀️

It is a 16/18 and listed as a 16, it is going to fit a 16.

How difficult is it tomeasure length and armpit to armpit and how on earth could you get this wrong?!!!

likelysuspect · 17/05/2026 17:22

If theres one thing I hate on ebay its no measurements. Just lazy.

Fast800goingforit · 17/05/2026 17:24

Whenever I sell things that I've measured, I always put "approx" after them. Never had an issue.

Bettermuseli · 17/05/2026 17:27

If all size 16s have identical measurements why not tell customers what the chest measurement is at least?
Exactly. Because they are not all the same.

Rhaidimiddim · 17/05/2026 17:30

Measure it from armpit seam to armpit seam across the front, and from the neck hem to the bottom hem at the back.

Then post these measurements using "approximately:

"The jacket is approximately 20 inches from armpit-seam to armpit-seam measured across the front, and approximately 20 inches long, measured from the neck to the bottom hem at the back."

People are interested in your item, so it is worth taking the time to provide this additional information to help sell it..

TheRealMagic · 17/05/2026 17:30

They're not unreasonable to ask, you're not unreasonable to ignore. I only ever bother replying with measurements if I've had the item up for a while without selling. Otherwise, I'm happy to ignore that buyer in the assumption another will come.

UniquePinkSwan · 17/05/2026 17:31

EBay tell you that you must include measurements. It’s not Vinted.

swapsicles · 17/05/2026 17:33

I've never known measurements of my clothing at all.
I know what size I am and what brands I fit better and that's that.
I just take a pic of the item and the label.

AmberTigerEyes · 17/05/2026 17:34

Denim shrinks. You should give measurements.

FourEyesGood · 17/05/2026 17:34

YABU to not include measurements.

But I’ll forgive you as long as your listing doesn’t say ‘Selling due to weight loss - sadly now too big for me’ with its implied ‘but it’ll fit you, you fat fucker’.

StationJack · 17/05/2026 17:36

The people who ask for measurements never bid.

GettingFestiveNow · 17/05/2026 17:37

You don't have to put anything in the listing if you don't want, but if there's no measurements I won't be buying 🤷🏼‍♀️

SunnyRedSnail · 17/05/2026 17:46

@MummyWillow1 Perhaps selling clothes on eBay isn't for you?

Lay the jacket on the floor buttoned up, then put a tape measure across it in different dimensions and write in the listing what it measures.

People will want to know armpit to hem length, armpit to armpit length and probably sleeve length.

InterestingDuck · 17/05/2026 18:41

Photograph it with the tape measure across it, that way they can't accuse you of mis-measuring.

Clothes sizing is so variable even within the same brand, I would need measurements for a denim jacket as denim is unforgiving if too small.

Jopo12 · 17/05/2026 18:44

I find Vinted far easier and less bothersome for selling stuff.
It's especially good for selling clothes
