Is this a safeguarding concern?

We live on an estate and a few of our neighbours kids aged between 6 and 9 often play unsupervised streets away on an e scooter.

They go at quite a fast speed in parking areas where cars go and just roam freely.

The parents don't supervise their children and are often in the house whilst the kids just roam freely speeding on their e scooters.

I find this really concerning as think it's only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured.

The kids also use them in a designed play area which makes other parents unable to use the play area.

After reading the poor story of the 86 year old grandmother being killed by an e scooter it does make me worry as I have a young toddlers.

Other neighbours have voiced their concerns and have put cones on the end of the drives to stop them coming on ramming their e scooter onto their cars.

AIBU to report this and to whom would I report this too?

you would report them to the police as they are illegal on public land.

youlookradishing · 16/05/2026 19:24

Irresponsible, but not safeguarding level.

sittingonabeach · 16/05/2026 19:27

@youlookradishing its an illegal activity so I would classify that as a safeguarding concern

ToKittyornottoKitty · 16/05/2026 19:29

Report the e scooters to the police

Decacaffeinatednow · 16/05/2026 19:42

6 year olds on e-scooters should be everyone’s concern.

banksyh · 16/05/2026 20:37

I will report it to the police.
I wonder if I can do it anonymously?

Crimestoppers take anonymous calls

ThePeppyOpalScroller · 16/05/2026 20:47

🙄

Goldengirl123 · 17/05/2026 07:55

Report to the police

PersephoneParlormaid · 17/05/2026 07:57

Also report them being on the park to the council.

Lifesyoungdream · 17/05/2026 09:23

I would report it because it’s sounds like an accident waiting to happen and you would never forgive yourself if the children got injured Have you any community police around that would have a word with the parents.

This is something your local PCSO should be able to deal with.
