Is this within the realms of normal tiredness?!

Ex takes DD on a Saturday. He doesn’t do overnights and is pretty hands off generally. I work full time but to be fair I do have flexibility. Setting the context!

If I don’t meet friends on a Saturday I do housework then fall asleep from 2 - 5 ish?! Is this normal? I just can’t stay awake.

My ferritin is 65 and B12 ok too. I sometimes am woken in the night by dd but only very briefly if she stirs, so it’s more like broken sleep but still around 7 hours total. Is that not enough?!

I am only 38 so feel like I shouldn’t be falling asleep so easily in the day.

No I wouldn't say so. I was doing this when my ferritin was 11. It's now 25 and I don't do it anymore even though that's still low. Around your age too.

CurbsideProphet · 16/05/2026 17:49

I would happily have a little snooze on a Saturday afternoon. DH and I call it being tired from life. Work, small child, life admin, housework, cooking, shopping etc. It's a lot on the brain to always be on the go doing, organising, parenting!

sparklyblueberry2 · 16/05/2026 17:49

I would speak with the gp, have other bloods checked such as Hb, thyroid etc. I had a similar conversation with my gp who said it wasn’t related to my ferritin of 16 and could be sleep apnoea…because I often need to nap. He ignored the fact I can’t stay asleep at night and am always awake from 1-3am no matter what I do!

Coconutter24 · 16/05/2026 17:52

Well I’m also 38, I fell asleep at 3pm and just woke up about 5:30. After a busy working week sometimes I need an extra rest on a weekend. Life catches up with me. I’m not saying don’t get checked out if you feel cause for concern but for me it’s normal

Lunarlightning · 16/05/2026 17:56

Although in the normal range your ferritin level could be improved. I'm 50 snd mine is 89..Add some Spinach to your diet regularly.

LividArse · 16/05/2026 18:01

You might just be exhausted, but check your thyroid.

ZebraPyjamas · 16/05/2026 18:03

This sounds normal to me, it’s just a Saturday afternoon nap, not as if you’re falling asleep at your desk every day or anything

youalright · 16/05/2026 18:08

I have a nap most days so its my normal im always suprised by how much energy others have

Flamingojune · 16/05/2026 18:09

Not normal. How old is kid

tiramisugelato · 16/05/2026 18:11

No, I don't think it's normal to need to sleep for 3 hours in the daytime.

When DH had constant exhaustion it turned out to be Type 2 diabetes and low B12.

bananaapplepears · 16/05/2026 18:14

I dont think thats normal. My ferritin was 29 when last checked and I couldn't nap for 3 hours. I sleep 11pm to 5.45am most days.

OddBoots · 16/05/2026 18:17

What is your night-time sleep like?

Justanothernamele · 16/05/2026 18:18

What happens on weekends when you do meet friends- are you alert or there but really need to be sleeping, or do you meet in the morning and still sleep in the afternoon? If you are alert and enjoying things there may not be an issue.

Being woken even briefly is still breaking in so maybe that is affecting it. If you feel something is wrong make another appointment with the GP.

DeathMetalMum · 16/05/2026 18:44

I'll fall asleep around that time if I'm sitting on the sofa in the afternoon. I'm 36 get between 7-8 hours of sleep a night. I just don't sit down at that time, I don't feel tired if I'm up and moving around or keeping busy, I just nod off if it's quiet and I'm comfy.

Life is busy though, work PT but two teen DC and sports clubs/comps. Parents evenings, orthodontist appointments, GP and physio appointments for a few ongoing things with dd1.

Moveyourbleedingarse · 16/05/2026 18:49

I slept for nearly two hours this afternoon and my ferritin is over 100!

So normal for me. Napping is marvellous. I get under the duvet, shut the blinds and really go deep!

I always napped when the children were tiny.

BoilingHotand50something · 16/05/2026 18:52

I love a nap but rarely sleep for more than 30 minutes of an afternoon. And I am a knackered menopausal heifer with health conditions. As you are questioning it, I would get checked over. Might just be normal for you but peace of mind is worth a lot.
